They are the greatest rock n roll band in the world because of songs like JJF, Sympathy, Paint it Black, Satisfaction, etc, plus their great albums of 68 and 69. Not to mention the unprecedented rock shows they began to play in 69

To me they still are but because of what they've done in the (recent) past. THIS tour made me ask this question maybe.

sleazy, decadent, drugs and more drugs, tons of alcohol, lots of tabloid filth, adultery, statutory rape, tons of illegitemit children and most of all killer riffs, pounding drum rolls and the graetest frontman in music history, and throw in longlivity, Like bob marley the genre of rock will be gone with the stones passing.

aerosmith and gnr came close though.

Aerosmith/G'n'R came close for a short period of time and have not been able to sustain it. I suppose Bruce Springsteen and U2 have come closer...!

...Because of their live performances from 1963 to nowadays.

...Because of their ability to balance very well between to be "a dinosaur" and to be a "chameleon".

...Because their worst studio albums are still good. More than decent.

Aerosmith may be the best American rock band but they never reached the level of the Stones.
Tyler said he always wanted to be the "American version of Mick Jagger"

They have so many strengths but to me their musical range is stunning. Not only have they done just about everything but they have done it all good.

Hot Stuff was as good as anything to come out of the disco era.

The variety of their music makes it a better listen.

ok,the rolling stones have defined everything a rock n' roll band should be... loud, decadent and dangerous. The Stones' influantial blend of hard-driving rock and blues and their longevity make them truly "the world's greatest rock n' roll band!"

I say that it's because they have a far greater number of quality songs than any other rock band.

Probably the greatest studio band, but not the greatest live act. IMO, that honor goes to The Grateful Dead.
