5.1 ? awful

"we know it's a bit late but we hope you don't mind if we stay"

i've been interested in hearing what an alernate mix of exile might sound like but i'm leary of most 5.1 mixes. most of the time 5.1 mixes are done very cheaply by simply altering the 2 channel stereo mix which can easily be done at home with with computer programs. but sometimes the multitrack tapes are used to make a new mix for surround sound and they sound incredible . but a good 5.1 mix of exile would be a tricky task to say the least . i'm sure it would lose the murky sound we all know and most love. too much seperation of the instruments would probably ruin the vibe of the album and too little would be weaken it.

Hmm... interesting. No doubt it would be interesting and perhaps also musically awesome to hear Exile remixed, but at the same time I agree it's like messing a little with the Mona Lisa...

Either way, it's cool to get more and more news/indications/rumors about the planned release.

I thought this entry on Wikipedia was interesting:

In 2003, Jagger said, Exile it has some of the worst mixes I've ever heard. I'd love to remix the record, not just because of the vocals, but because generally I think it sounds lousy. At the time Jimmy Miller was not functioning properly.

Scares me a little that MJ doesn't recognize that the mix is one of the highlights.

Can't wait to hear it at least. Which Stones albums would sound good in a 5.1 mix. Probably anything from Steel Wheels onwards.

Mickijaggeroo -- Pretty cool that your friend (I know who you mean but I don't wanna reveal his name w/o permission) was approached by the Exile reissue people and got the opportunity to share photos. Didn't know he was at Nellcote. Would be cool to hear his radio interview some day.

What refers to L&G? It says Exile on the disc, not L&G.

When Exile will be out in 2010 it will be a 2 discs set:Exile audio and DVD (L&G)I believe,not that hard to figure.

what does it do the the sound quality of something? how does it change or improve it?

how would it likely change the way Exile sounds?

Are we talking about a bootleg? An official release in 5.1? It will be an unmitigated disaster. If you compare the virgin CD with a good vinyl copy, you'll notice that the vocals are a bit clearer, and it hurts the album. They should just leave it the way it is. "All Down the Line" is practically in mono.

No bootleg, it´s a promo copy of Exile we´re talking about, see my first post.

while stereo has 2 channels 5.1 has 5 plus one channel that only has a bass signal of the music (not bass guitar)

Yeah, 5.1 is surround sound. For example, three speakers in front, two in the back (each corner) plus a subwoofer on the floor. That's 5 plus 1.

Have those mentioned photos from your friend been released before or unknown stuff?

Search for toup on the internet some torrentsites offer perfect surround sound discs of the stones, the best of them is sticky fingers, unfortunately exile is not on toup records. So hopefully they will release it in surround sound, can't wait.
