A great Ronnie Wood (Faces) moment
Posted by: Elmo Lewis ()

His guitar playing on "Jodie" is exceptional. The slightly behind the beat feel sounds melancholy and is perfect for the lyrics. This song is rarely mentioned - it's Faces, although it's credited to Rod.

Other nice ones - "Poolhall Richard" (about Keith?) and "Glad And Sorry" (kudos the Mac on that one too.)

Agree with all of the above and especially love " debris " and " stay with me "
also " i'm losing you " from Rod Stewarts " every picture..." which has the Faces playing on that tune.

For me it's when those glorious overdriven chopping guitar chords come in towards the end of Miss Judy's Farm, just before Rod sings "Miss Judy, she was moody, and she always didn't get her own way."

I really think that Ronnie Wood played much better with the Faces than with the Stones.
Why? He was the only guitarplayer in that band and he played so many beautiful stuff like; You Can Make Dance, Tell Everyone, If I'm Late, Cindy Incidentally etc etc etc. I love to hear those songs. Everytime. His playing was very good there.
With the Stones it's totally different. It's more show and filling the gaps, playing with Keith on stage, acting tough here and there. It's not bad, but less interesting. There's a big difference between Ronnie's sound with the Faces and with the Stones.

Solo on Maybe I'm Amazed, (live).

And Jerusalem!

And yes - his own man in his own band. I don't think he's really a two-guitar band player - or at least, he was much stronger as the main man in his own band. Such an individualist - idiosyncratic.

With Keith at Kilburn was nice though.

Quite frankly it is hard to find a single BAD moment of Ronnie with the Faces.

But I do not agree that Ronnie's playing suffered once he joined the stones. If you are familiar with what he did with the Faces, you will see how much that he "Faced" the stones ...

He wasn't quite the only guitarist in the Faces, and Keith wasn't his first partner in the art of weaving...

I love his solo on the live version of "I wish It Would Rain". Remind me of his solos on You Can;t Always Get what You Want 75-76.

Some of my favs are: Had Me A Real Good Time:, So Rude (one of my fav faces songs), and Bad and Ruin (especially the guitar runs at the end).

Thank you for ther post Palmkeith.

Quite possibly my favorite Faces tune.

I always thought this gem to be a MAJOR classic. "You NEARLY missed - you ain't so hot." A great song.

My old band recorded 'Pool Hall Richard' for a b-side back in '92 and it was always the funnest song to do live, love that tune. Ronnie's guitar work in the Faces was amazing.
