My wife is reading a novel and Parsons/Richards Heroin Sessions in the South of France in 1971 are mentioned. Did or do these exist?

No. They most likely played together often, but never did any recording.

Can anybody recommend a good Gram Parsons compilation or album to get started with? I'm almost ashamed to admit I've never heard a note the man played, although I've been reading about him in Stones books for years.

Ohno......for starters these three CDs will give you a fair dose of Gram.

Gram Parsons GP/Grevious Angel Reprise 7599-26108-2
Grams two solo albums on one disc.

The Byrds Sweethearts Of The Radio - Columbia/Legacy 486752-2
1997 release with 8 bonus tracks

Flying Burritto Brothers - The Gilded Palace Of Sin/ Burrito Delux 540-704-2
Two albums on one CD - Worth it just to hear Gram on Hot Burrito #1

Rockman nailed it. Those are 3 great discs. I hope you like country music though. I had a friend who listened to a Gram disc that I gave him and he asked
"what's this country shit? I thought he was going to sound like Keith"

Yep, Rockman got it ...! Those commendations are sensational, though I'd also suggest you seek out the Sacred Hearts and Fallen Angels 2 cd Anthology set.

Awesome, and a fantastic actual package. Great booklet etc.

but start with the GP/Griveous Angel! the other two cds, while incredible stuff, feature gram in bands so he sings some songs but doesn't sing others...

there's also a version of gram singing wild horses i had....some say he wrote it you know! listening to that version it was not hard to imagine... keith says no though

once you've discovered Gram, you're life will never be the same!

Rockman's nailed it- but may i also recommend, the excellent "Fallen Angel" BBC Documentary
(the brainchild of Sid Griifin), that is due for a June 5th DVD, release date.

checkout Sid's excellent Gram Parsons page , for further info:-

WHAT a FANTASTIC quote!

Parsons' and Chris Hillman's (Chris has to get credit
for this, too) most perfect vision is certainly The Burrito's
The Guilded Palace Of Sin album. A truly original album.
And look at those outfits! Those Nudie suits!
Jack White, Bono, or Springsteen couldn't come up with something that cool.

A movie was made about Grams death and the theft of his body at the Joshua Tree. It is called "Grand Theft Parsons" starring Johhny Knoxville and Christina Applegate.

Never released in theaters, but available on DVD. Grams manager, the person who took his body into the desert, was an associate producer.

The movie starts with Gram dying. I have watched about half of it and it is pretty good. Made in 2004 I believe.

the movie was on cinema release, over here in the UK, (abeit- limited)
It is a good fun movie- but it was "Hollywood"- it didnt stick to the facts.
But what do you expect, with Kaufman as on-set advisor?
(he also gets a cameo right at the end of the movie)

For the facts, get the Sid Griffin "Fallen Angel" BBC Doc, when it's released on DVD, in June.
