A Soulful Beauty: "Whadd'Ya Think" on Woody's "Not For Beginners"

Have just been revisiting Woody's "Not For Beginners" album of 2002.

Wow. "Whadd'Ya Think" is one of the most gorgeous things I've heard in a long, long while.

How I wish the Stones could deliver something with this kind of casual and heartfelt vibe...

I guess in some ways it's much more akin to Faces/Rod stuff than to anything the Stones could/would do.

Meanwhile, "Leaving Here" is a top-notch rocker and "Rock'n'Roll Star" a cool cover.

Hats off to Woody for a offhanded and offbeat little classic.

If you could know how I love it. We can understand why good music can't sell very much. It's another world indeed.

has some moments - like the Dylan duet - but it comes off as a bit amateurish...

Youre completely right about Whadd´Ya Think"! There are 2 more I find very nice on this album: "R U Behaving Yourself", "Wake Up You Beauty" and "Be Beutiful". I never understand the bad critics of this album. The instrumentals are boring, but otherwise very fine indeed.

Like the title said 'Not For Beginners'.
Great, great album... also the instrumentals.

A great album - full of soul. It's not about perfection, but catches the feel in a brilliant way IMO.

But if you listen to the drumsound it´s from several recording sessions (years).

And: The drumsound on "Hypershine" is the best in decades. Listen to the S N A R E!!

This is a very raw album IMHO that has many fine moments. Lots of excellect musicians sitting in. I love all of Ronnies solo work and NFB once again reveals Ronnies musicical talents despite some vocal liabilities that have gained momentum as he ages. If I could come up with a word to describe this album it would be "relaxing". Nice to listen to in the car late at night.

This is the type album that should only sell a little. I know it's easy for me to say that because I am not Ronnie. But it's perfect the way it is. Love what the other post said: "If you could only know how I love it" That is poetry.
The folks who see it as amateur-like I think might be missing out.
