Ain't Too Proud to Beg........the Stones have recorded far too many great songs, to sing songs that never even recorded.

Love Train...that wasn't the best of choices, was it? The surprise was fun for about 10 seconds, and then it seemed embarrassing. Keith didn't look happy at all during this song, it was all because of Micks meanderings and shennannigans that was the cause for this pick of songs.

If we're to guess on what the next cover will be based on the Love Train choice, it wouldn't surprise me to hear them play the Bee Gee's Staying Alive. Lame...yes indeed, but Mick would have fun attempting the falsetto vocals. I can see Keith now... mad as hell.

In view of Solomon Burke cutting a version of I Got The Blues ( with Stones Ref in fade out ) it's almost a sure bet that somewhere on the next tour Solomon & The Stones will get together.

Solomon Burke - Make Do With What You Got DK 34357

Bee Gee's Staying Alive is absolutely great! One of the greatest disco bass lines of all times!

Dancing on the ceiling! I think they are better off trying to write some new rock songs and play them live.

<Ain't Too Proud to Beg>

The Licks-version was awful! Only horns and really bad vocals. Dreadful arrangement.

Why don't they play "Heart of Stone" more often, instead of songs like "Love Train", which didn't suit them at all. Even "I Can't Turn You Loose" sounded better...

I wanna hear songs like "Let It Rock"! Or, like Kaskatanas suggested, "Hard To Handle".

Edward

PS Rockman, which Burke song do you have in mind? Or just a guest appearance during "I Got The Blues" by Solomon?

Stones don't really cover disco per say,
late 60's early to mid 70's covers by
Otis Redding, O'Jays and Tempts for
example are more soul, funk, contemporary
r+b, tho some of discos roots lie here.
Personally I like their choices,
tho they've done enuff of these
standards, like t when they
get a little adventuresome.
Shirley's Shame Shame Shame
was a great often overlooked
choice for example..............................

Speaking of Lionel Ritchie...how about the Commodores "Easy Like Sunday Morning"?!!! smiling smiley

Seriously, they should probably cover a Bob Marley & Wailers song (Get Up, Stand Up...Lively Up yourself, etc.) and forget about trying to reinterpret a '70's disco classic such as Love Train. I also love LOVE TRAIN, but only the original by the OJays...the Stones added nothing to it, and actually tainted the vibe of the original.

Someone mentioned Beatles?

Yer Blues would be the perfect choice, a song that Keith actually praised as "quintessential rock music" and played bass on alongside John Lennon for the Rock.N.Roll Circus special.

What about "In the Midnight Hour" by Wilson Picket? I think Mick would make a great job of it.

I think I've bust a button on my trousers....

He would - but this song has been done to death by everyone and his grandmother. Plus, it has the same basic bass line as Ain't Too Proud to Beg, so why bother?
