Can anyone seriously say, that there ever was a cooler looking rock'n roll band than the Stones in USA 72? Outrageous.

Yeah, those were great! Wonderful quality! I love those polka dot and striped shirts. Nice view of Mick T's Les Paul as well. Is it possible to view them in big size?

Gosh these are just beautiful - they looked so much tougher here than in '73 - hadn't totally crossed the glam line yet--just some hollywood traces

This is true; about there being a difference between 72 ans 73.
In 72 Jagger wore the make=up and glitter more as a badge. It's almost like it meant something different in the USA than in Europe. Glam was big in Europe.
Yeah, it's like in 72 the glam was worked into the denim jacket, longer hair, more of a rebel thing.

Palace--very well put - the rebel thing-- those jackets were a southern thing here in the states then - very rebel yell and all that -jagger blended so many cool styles on the tour - denim, scarves, ballet shoes - a crazy melange

'73 was nice, but pure, oozing glitter and glam - more fey than tough

Denim jackets were a "southern thing" in the early 70s?

Smokey--well, they were big all over the states to be sure--but i remember, as a kid, traveling through alabama, mississippi, louisiana, etc--this would have been around spring '72 and i swear, they were huge down there--and kids had patches sewn on them to make them unique--like STP patches or Pennzoil, etc. - semmed everyone had one - so this is just my perception as it were

The 1972 and 1975 Tours are my favorites! The energy was unsurpassed, the staging, costumes all made it beyond compare...IMO. I was thinking about how it is for all of us who are aging BOOMERS, and we also look back at photos of ourselves and at least for me, it can be a jolt. I cringe, and am reminded of " Time Waits For No One". But to have looked THAT AWESOME...and don't get me wrong, I think MIck always looks sexy and incredible but none of us have found the secret of how to make time stand still unless we die young. At least he has maintained much of his vigor and sensuality. I think he's one lucky man!

Hey there Heiloobaas, what do you mean I don't know what I'm talking about!? yawning smiley I know first hand baby!! I think that after seeing every tour many times over since 1972 that I am entitled to say 1972 and 1975 were the BEST of the BEST! What's up with the POUTY?? Mick's pout or mine?? BY the way, I did say IMO....which tours do you think were better? Are you one of the folks who HATED the Buffalo show from August 8, 1975?

72 defineltey has an edge over 73 both muscially and visually. A much more interesting blend of styles as has been posted in this thread already. and these clothes look different than the typical 72 outfits I see Jagger Wearing in photos.

Jagger's clothes (except for the red polk a dot shirt) are consistent with the outfits he wore during the 1972 tour.

What is different is Keith playing a rose wood colored Telecaster and playing a Strat with a capo on the 4th fret.

I'm dissapointed the 1972 tour guitar experts on this board have not said anything about Keith's guitars.

Batonrouge - where do you see the rosewood Tele? Is it the pic where it is not too clear?
I think since SF was still a very early show, Keith must have been still experimenting with guitars; to see what worked best for songs. It looks like it might even be "Happy" with the Strat. And important - on some early versions of Tumbling Dice, Keith actually sand BU vocals!
We also see him with Les Paul (which could mean "Bitch"), there is one shot of Keith at the mike where we see only the neck of the guitar but it looks like a Les Paul too.
The pics are all from various SF shows; those are all typical 72 outfits. In a way as the tour progressed Jagger and Keith seemed to 'settle' into certain looks for the rest of tour.
