Bill Wyman's "Rolling with the Stones"
Posted by: yorkey ()
Date: April 28, 2009 09:22

Has anyone here read it?

I got it from the library and I really loved it. The illustrations, old photo's, newspaper clippings and things you didn't know about 'em. Besides that, the "story" itself is well written.

I asked if I could buy it from the library but just got met by a cold stare from the librarian.. so. sad smiley

Got it when it first came out.
A well made book and well constructed narrative.
Many wonderful images too.

Had the honor of being a contributor and all because of a little read thread on this forum.

It is indeed a great book - don't know where you live but it is available at play.com

Ian Stewart took this picture ,Bill doesn't look too enthousiastic at the sight of Keith playing bass.

The book is an absoloute treasure - imo, the most essential book on the Rolling Stones

He gets some facts wrong, like the US release #s, some songs in the set lists and then there are some things he doesn't even mention, like Flashpoint.

Not that I blame him for that.

Yeah I know what you mean, another thing I would've liked is some more about the late 70's & 80's. Most of the book was about the 60's but only like a quarter was for the rest of the years.

It's a fantastic book though. Yeah, a lot on the 60s, the early 70s, Keith's drug bust and then it gets a bit thin.

Mick wanted to over dub the LSTNT movie. Ha ha.

According to Bill they were planning a tour in 1984. Imagine Undercover getting some live life!

... and then there are some things he doesn't even mention, like Flashpoint.

Wasn't he essentially out of the band by then?

Besides the A Life on The Road...skips the entire '78 tour...like it didn't even happen.

Is Bill the one we can thank for the rumored Can't You Hear Me Knockin' getting played in the U.K. '70 tour?

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

A few images from various tours; TOTA, SW, VL and a couple of other like items, along with a few bits of related research.

A good read I bought it when it first came out. As others have mentioned it's filled full of info on the early years.

I think the book is one of the better one's on the Stones. The tour diary's are great as well as some of the details regarding the records.

Whilst not entirley comparable, it's a better and more entertaining read than the "According To....." book

I would be happy to post a link, but I do not think that the post is still accessible. It was a post from some time late in 2001 in the Buy, Sell, Trade section of the forum (right now the posts only go back as far as 2004 I think). There were very few replies and and the majority of those were loaded with ridicule and derision of the person who started the thread.
Turns out he was one of the "researchers" for the Rolling With the Stones book project.

Yeah, BV reset the board around September '04, I believe.
Would have been nice to go back and look at that thread.

Thanks, curt!

Maybe you can find it with the wayback machine?
