Last year i went to visit Muscle Shoals studios and the woman who was there during Brown Sugar sessions, tells me that Keith plays so loud during the sessions that they put his amp in the restrooms and he finally says that it was a good Idea to have the right sound, so in the last takes the sound is différent because of this.

The 'final' version just came up...

[youtu.be]

They took drums, bass, Keith's main rhythm guitar and the acoustic guitar (Taylor?) to England for the overdubs. On this take there are several overdubbed electric guitar riffs from Keith.

Interesting. So the version with the arpeggios and Taylor's solo was done at Olympic. Taylor was playing those arpeggios as early as Altamont.

Richards wisely took his time to hone that second guitar part.

Piano was overdubbed at Olympic*

*Not so sure. It might have just been mixed out here and added back in because there is definitely piano on the basic track.

That song popularized open tuning G, add9 and sus4 chords usage, maybe. I am sure others used these techniques before Keith but the way Keef whackes the chords, that is the essence of his style; he owns it, nobody does it exactly like Richards and that is why he is the greatest riffmaker in rock and roll!

I like how you can hear how Mick had hit on the “Yeah yeah yeah” idea in the chorus, but, for the final recorded version, wisely saved them until the end (and added the “woo!”s).

Based on all available recordings, do you think this is one of the most worked on songs of the band? And did they know they had one of their best songs on their hands?

Maybe not. Keith did most of Happy in one day.The Beatles spent their most time on Maxwells Silver Hammer.

It's very likely that SFTD wins the award for most worked on song by The Rolling Stones, followed by Munich Hilton, I Think I'm Going Mad, Tumbling Dice and probably a tie between Loving Cup and Shine A Light.
