OT--Another Group's plan to beat ticket scalpers
Posted by: loog droog ()

This was in today's LA Times:

[latimesblogs.latimes.com]

(I changed the title of this thread so that people would stop weighing in on No Doubt and talk about the specifics of their plan as outlined in the LA Times article. Will it work??)

They are really over estimating their popularity. They are not The Police.

If their fan base works at places like "Fashion Bug", how can they afford tickets?

For a $15 per show membership fee .

Just a tad cheaper than RS.com membership ( and you get nothing ! )

So after service charges, the No Doubt tickets in the front sections will be around $120..I guess a bargain in todays market. They are a childrens act.

You are really over estimating your mental capabilities.

They can easily sell 50,000 tickets around here.

The point of this thread is not about the merits of No Doubt.

I thought the LA Times article had some interesting ideas on their attempt to keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers.

I give them credit for trying to create a mechanism that tries to insure that the best seats end up the hands of people who are actually No Doubt fans....not just the people with too much money who show up late, talk through the show, leave early...(see the "concert dorks" thread).

A lot of bands just don't seem to care who is in the seats, as long as they are sold. You don't have to be a No Doubt fan to appreciate that they are going out of their way to take care of the people who have supported them.

If it works, maybe it will catch on with other groups...

AC/DC's method wasn't foolproof, but better than most others I have seen. At least they sold the best seats first come, first serve to the fan club members with no hold backs and latter ticket drops. TM f'd up the seating charts and seat numbering, but that was their bad and had nothing to do with the methodology. There are many fan club that take care of their fans, the Stones, Who, VH are not among them however.

No Doubt released a few good songs: Don't Speak, I'm Just A Girl, etc.

Can't stand her solo though!

When I took my kids to see the Stones in 2002 in Atlanta, my sixth grader's friends couldn't have cared less about the Stones - but they were impressed that he'd seen No Doubt.

Just a good pop band, nothing more, nothing less. Very energetic that night. Gwen's kinda cute.

Good for No Doubt for at least trying to take care of some of their fan base.

I use to see them back in the early 90's, they were mostly a Ska band back then. They put on some great shows.

scalpers = maggots

This stuff of tickets going onsale on Internet scalper websites (Ticketsnow, StubHub), before they ever even go onsale to the general public is BS.

In Southern California, they could play and headline a stadium but instead just do multiple nights. The 2 nights at Irvine is going to be 3 or 4 with another 2-3 added at the Universal (plus shows in San Diego, Bakersfield, Fresno)

In 2004 they did the Hyundai Pavilion which can hold up to 50,000 along with 2 more at the Universal Amph and 2 at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

In Nov 2002 they did 3 nights at Long Beach Arena and 1 at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim with additional arena gigs in San Diego and Bakersfield.

I will mark in my Calender not to visit my Vendor in Irvine that week...the venue is off the main highway from what I recall on the way to John Wayne Airport.

It's amusing how any mention of any other band here brings out so many negative whiny haters.
