I think you really gotta learn more about how much can be fitted onto a single DVD or BluRay. There's way too much on every disc, but then again: What's wrong with bumping it up a few discs. smiling smiley

While I'm aware I don't have the technichal know how on how much information can fit on DVD discs I think this would be a really worthwhile project for the band. There is so many videos, interviews, television performances, etc just floating around out there being watched by people on the net (youtube etc) why not have it all together in perfect quality and get paid. Also let's face it they are in their Autumn years and this would be great product to have ready to go for when they aren't producing new music/touring anymore. A perfect full stop when the day comes if you will. I for one would be pleased to participate in the production spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

I wonder why the Stones haven't done a box set? They don't even have to be involved. Just hand the reins to someone else? Most other big bands have by now and are very successful ie: Zepplin

I think a difference is that one of the band members, i.e Jimmy Page seems to have been very involved in the whole compiling and archiving of Led Zep material...therein lies the difference.
Or at least that's what you are led (aplogizes for the pun)to believe.
Mind you a recent biographer of the band said that all Page does with his time these days is watch football on the TV.
At least Mick has got a life.
Keith? Oh, heck, I could get into trouble here.

Keith's lady looks so good that he hasn't got the time... Same about Ronnie. :-)
Actually the best option would be Bill, unfortunately now it's impossible.

I don't need that big boxset... I'd like to buy only 68-72 COMPLETE WORKS:
- studio stuff
- outtakes/alttakes
- live stuff
- video stuff
- interviews, press, etc

about 7 CDs, 3 DVDs (@#$%&!), 200-page booklet.

Why couldn't Bill be involved. He's not a current band member but does that really matter?

apparently it does to the current band members, who erased him from the Rarities cover photo.

does 40 Licks not count as a box set? Mine came in a box.

what is "complete" about this proposed set?

They RIGHTFULLY took him away from that cover I might add.
My 40 Lix weren't in a box btw. Only 40 Lix box I've seen is the LP sized CD one.

In theory, Bill, Alan Dunn, Michael Cohl, Mandy Smith.... any one or all. Who said Andrew Oldham?
The Beatles (Anthology) had Neil Aspinall, he wasn't a technician but was pretty devoted to the fab4. And of course, George Martin gave a hand.
Dylans anthologises are the work of his management team, he just nods his approval
Neil Young? not sure, seems to be hands on
The Who -Townsend seems to be pretty involved

The issues that come to mind seem to be trust/ delegation/effort/interest/time.
Can't see any legal issues for any post 71 material (copyrights are frequently a sticky problem)

Bill is far too busy, has better things to do with his time.

yeah, because bill was in every picture ever taken of the Stones while he was in the group, so it was impossible to find a good one for the cover that without editing had just the 4 current Stones--who, let me add, are the best line-up the band has ever had and created the all-time classic Voodoo Lounge. Right.

Removing Bill from Rarities was probably even sanctioned by the Glimmer Twins! I doubt they even know it was released.....

Is there a link to see that picture WITH Bill in it? I thought it was here one time.

Nobody has a link to the original picture? I've searched - I can't find one. Come on people! Hook it up!

Here you go:

Oddly enough, they used this picture in the booklet for "40 Licks" too.

From an artistic point of view it makes perfect sense to remove Bill from the picture. I don't think any legal reasons or resentment towards Bill was involved in that decision. Shame about the inacurate liner notes, but then again that could also have to with Bill's absence.

I still find it inexcusable, and a strange kind of revisionism to wipe out Bill Wyman from that picture. If you have to have a picture with the current line-up, then use one from post 1993. My two cents.

i find it quite disturbing the way the stones dismiss brian jones, mick taylor and bill wyman.

they might not be part of the stones now, but why should thier contribution be ignored.

if the stones release thier next back catologue, couldnt we also erase jagger, woods and watts unless they are doing a current project.

The Stones on Juke Box Jury doesn't exist any more, it was wiped by the BBC.

Don't the Stones have a full-time archivist (James Karbach?).

If there's an archive box coming out it'll be his job, like what Jeff Rosen is to Dylan's works...

Wow. That is odd. And why THAT picture? That's what's also funny about it. Surely they could have used a better picture.

If they boot Ronnie and put out another gomper of a collection like Rarities are they gonna remove Ronnie as well? Would that make artistic sense?
