Stones doing early blues is different than later on. Early on they were scholars; and while oftewn playing them like the original it felt effortless, swinging, and did always have their own spice in there. kater on they developed this style that NO ONE else knows how to do. It has everyone kind of solo-ing at once.

EARLY
I Can't Be Satisfied
Hi Heeled Sneakers
Honest I Do
Down Home Girl
How Many More Times
In The Bottom
Little Red Rooster
Diddley Daddy
I'm A King Bee
Confessin The Blues (already a forerunner to their "new" style)
Baby What's Wrong
Talkin Bout You

Hardly any of these are are straight up 12 bar blues. They were masters.

LATER
Who's Driving Your Plane
Tow Trains Running
Fancy Man Blues
The Storm
Black Limousines
It Hurts Me Too
Love In Vain (any time)

I keep looking at these posts and they have so many good bluesy songs its hard to pick them. Stop Breaking Down is great!

I keep looking at the posts too, and notice that hardly any of them pay tribute to the early 63-65 years.

I can't name only 5, but Midnight Rambler (live) would be at the top of the list.

That is good question, and applies to some other tunes as well (i.e. "I Got The Blues", "Stray Cat Blues"...). Tha categories are not always so easy to define.

Of their officially released stuff, in this thread there is a list of what I consider to be their official blues catalog (plus few pages interesting discussion on the topic):

P.S. I'm still working my top five...

The same here. Especially the Brussells '73 version is the best documented piece of music ever captured on record. You can not top the shit any better.

Well, none of those mentioned are technically blues, but I think the Stones consider Rambler a blues, and it is clearly more of a direct extension of blues than Stray Cat or I Got the Blues (which seems to be more of a soul ballad to me).

I love Midnight Rambler but I don't consider it a blues in the traditional sense.

Yeah Doxa, the Brussels "Rambler" is awesome; matter of fact most of the 73 "Ramblers" are scary. I think the Ya-Ya's version is even better though. Regardless - I too believe that the live "Rambler" is the truest thing ever to be laid down on record .

They way they play it live? ABSOLUTELY! It doesn't have to be a traditional 12 bar. If so then you couldn't call Smokestack Lightnin' or Wang Dang Doodle blues.
