When GHS came out in 1973 nobody I knew bought it. All I heard of it was radio play of Angie and Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Heartbreaker. Didn't like the latter. Actively hated the former... sappy pabulum IMO. I skipped GHS, and IORR and Black and Blue after it. Stuck with my Sticky Fingers, Exile, and Hot Rocks until the lads bounced back with Some Girls, ER, & Tattoo You. Didn't hear

See my edit/clarification. I waa just ticking off local musicians, I didn't see any of those except Clarence Clemons. Sure wish I had seen Gene Vincent, Link Wray, and Gary U.S. Bonds! I did get lucky and see (non-Virginian) Jerry Lee Lewis in 1982(?), tho, in a small venue, rockin show, drinking and.dancing... 10 feet(?) away from the Killer

May 28, 1971 (Friday) Mason Norfolk Virginia Norfolk Academy Gymnasium Near the end of 11th grade. I was 16. Mason was a 1968-1974 Norfolk heavy rock trio who played a kind of, as best I can recall, Cream meets Tull sound. And they were good! They had recently released what would be their only album, Harbour. The concert was during the school day as well. No trip or tickets needed. S

I've enjoyed sociobiology, at the layman's level, ever since it broke in the 1970s in Edward O. Wilson's book of the same name. The preferred term has since become evolutionary psychology. I'm interested in anthropology overall as well. And I love music. The subjects overlap when pondering the matter of just why we human beings love music so much. What is its evolutionar

QuoteTopi Wonder when they're going to introduce Dynamic Pricing to DVD's and blu-rays! A little trivia: Dynamic pricing of a chain of neighborhood laundromats was the source of the first fortune made by a guy who now regularly gets to (I believe pay-to-) play guitar opening Rolling Stones stadium shows. A few not-well-off folks I'm sure had to lug their laundry home wet when th

* Jan 21 I would be up the road in DC seeing these Baltimore kids, pinkshift (no relation to BlackPink... or Pink), but for a little transportation problem at the moment. Like many of us here I chase some big legacy acts. But I also find there to be no shortage of young, new rocknroll bands out there striving, some of them damn good. They just don't have the same opportunities now to get

Quotegeorgelicks Hot Rocks has now reached the 400 week milestone on the Billboard 200 (No. 195 this week). I bought mine shortly after it came out, and it was one of my Big Four Stones albums I bought, ages 14 - 17. The first was Through The Past Darkly in 1969, to get on an album the song that had blown my 14 yr old mind that summer, Honky Tonk Women. (I've since lost my summe

QuoteTopi Hey now, the Ghost Hounds are so cheap they stayed at a Holiday Inn in Amsterdam! Tull's a billionaire... billion with a B. And a big admirer of Warren Buffet. If the band he owns in order to play Guitar Hero in giant stadiums stayed in a Holiday Inn, he probably owns a stake in the corporation.

QuoteTopi Does Mary's dress "sway" or "wave"? It's waved, for me, since I bought BTR and started playing the hell out of it in 1975 about the time of the Time-Newsweek covers confluence. (He was a welcome new phenom, since, to my ears and my shock, the Stones had essentially collapsed into mediocrity after Exile... and they'd stay tragically ordinary until

Sarah Shook and the Devil's 2102 EP, "Seven." Also have been heavily playing her and the Disarmers' 3rd and newest LP, Nightroamer (2022). Got both at their Nov 14 show. If a show's good, I find that for about a week afterwards I play that band or artist almost exclusively. I'd done the same with Arcade Fire music after seeing them Oct. 28... played only Funera

Arcade Fire tonight in DC. Hoping it will be mostly from Funeral (2004), Neon Bible (2007), and The Suburbs (2010), but realistically expect most is going to be from Reflektor (2013), Everything Now (2017) and We (2022), their albums from after they lost the thread. They do have the ability, though, to raise the roof live on a lot of songs.

Well, that was wonderful. 'Course, I am someone who regards Heart Like A Wheel as one of the most nearly perfect albums anyone's ever made, so take that into account. Tristan McIntosh is from Nashville and a musical family, I think she's about 21 now -- was only 15 when an Am Idol finalist in 2016 (which I didn't see). She has a powerful voice and great control of it, with a v

I was a big fan of Linda Ronstadt throughout the 1970s and into the early 1980s when she still sang rock music. Before she went Gilbert & Sullivan and Nelson Riddle. I can't remember why I never made the effort to see her live back then. Most likely because I like my rock n roll dynamic and she was a stand-at-the-mic-&-sing performer, I guess. Whatever the reason, I regret now having

Brandi Carlile - Sep 21 This is one of only 5 solo shows she's doing. I saw her in June 2010 but that was full band, so I'm not sure what to expect, other than it's Brandi so it will be good. She's continuing to do full band concerts while these 5 scattered out solo shows happen too. Guessing I might've paid $40-something in 2010. She's also gotten quite a bit
