QuoteBärs I always thought that Ron's solo in this version of TD (1994) is majestic: The best thing about these threads is all the links to great versions. Great link, and indeed Ronnie Wood does these sort of solos very well.

I agree with Doxa and Sighunt, it would be easier to make a list of songs better live than in record and the list would be much shorter. Most songs sound better on records. Notable exceptions are: Midnight Rambler, Love In Vain, You Gotta Move (occasionally), When The Whip Comes Down (late 70s, early 80's), You Got Me Rocking. Little Queenie on Get Yer Ya Ya's also sounds better than

Apart from the Mick Taylor period, the Stones were never really a "great soloos" band. I like some of their early solos, on "Down the Road Apiece" or "All over now" (I have no idea whether it's Keith or Brian doing these), and I am sure there are some great soloos with Ronnie, but the power of the Stones lies somewhere else. In general, I am not very intereste

Why is it that I don't have any enthusiasm to put them on and listem to them? I hate the production on all of them. I hate the 'sound'. Wasn't it Keith who wanted to keep it basic but Mick over-ruled him on prod

Maybe the quality of an album an be measured by how fast a thread starts discussing other albums instead? In the thread about e.g. Exile, there would be no need to bring other albums into the discussion.

The album has two "gimmick" songs, which work rather well: "Undercover" and "Too Much Blood". Neither of them would remotely work live, but they are rather orginal tries of the Stones to investigate the 80's dance sound. It also has a decent "typical Stones" rocker (without being too much obvious): "She Was Hot" and a joyful Stones rock j

Doesn't work live very well, but the Some Girls version is great. Fantastic lyrics and you definitely need Mick Jagger to sing it, and great drive and guitar-work.

"Child of the Moon" and "Citadel" are their best intents at "psychedelic music". Partly because they'd work even without the psychedelic effects (they only add to the atmosphere but do not define the songs) and because they already have that typical Keith guitar rhythm thing which they would bring to perfection in the following years.

Bewildered by all the positive reactions on this song, I just listened to it again, and I am still bewildered. "Undercover" is not a very good album, but if at least they would have deleted the last 3 songs on it ("Too Tough", "All the way down" and "Must be hell" ) it would have been a lot better (they might wanna have deleted "Wanna Hold You"

In general I don't like the Stones' attempts at reggae very much. It lacks depth, murkiness, darkness. The only exception I'd make for "Feel On Baby" which has a bit of all that. Having said that, "Send it to me" is okay to listen to, it's not bad either, and certainly better than "Too Rude" or "Cherry Oh Baby".

I often think that, besides not living in the same country anymore, another reason that the Stones do not make albums of high quality anymore is that there are no inspiring rock bands anymore to give them inspiration. In the 60s and 70s, not only a lot of the original blues and soul musicians were around, but they also had Beatles, Cream, Hendrix, Creedence, Led Zeppeling, Velvet Underground, and

I first wanted to write: "mediocre song" but then I decided that maybe I should first listen to it again. Now I am listening to the entire Steel Wheels and in fact both the song as the album is much better than I remembered. When it came out, I was disappointed because I had still been hoping they would come up with something of the quality of Exile or Let It Bleed, or at least Tattoo

QuoteDandelionPowderman Could you please explain to me what's wrong with All Sold Out?? The melody is alright (it reminds me of another song though, but I don't know which one), and it would be a pretty straightforward soul song if it weren't for that annoying guitar soloing all the way through.

No, I don't like this album at all. Whereas on Aftermath, they tried to do something different than copying blues and soul standards, and came up with a number of original songs, on Between The Buttons, they end up copying the popbands of the swinging sixties. The songs are not clever, the sound is terrible and it's the first (unfortunately not the last) album with truelly embarrass
