Fave tracks on a very strong album: Sweet Sounds Of Heaven. Tell Me Straight. Rolling Stone Blues. Whole Wide World. Angry. Every guest is on point and not overused. The sax in Get Close is reminiscent of Ernie Watts. It’s absolutely stunning to make this that late in the game. SSOH could’ve been on EOMS, not because it’s gospel/soul, but because it actually has the quality.

Quotemaumau dare I say we have a brand new warhorse? Maybe, but it’d have to take a very prominent spot on the setlist given that the band has a somewhat limited number of concerts left in them. They have a humdinger of an album in their hands right now, and they could make the two singles into warhorses if they had Angry as the opening song, and SSOH as the second last song (the YCAGWYW spot).

We need a thread for the IORR axe swingers. Does anyone have the chords for the songs? I can get the first chord of Tell Me Straight for example, but I’m at a loss for the next one.

Someone mentioned that Whole Wide World could easily have been on some of the latter day Bowie albums. It’d fit right onto Reality for example. That kind of angst laden rock Bowie did so well.

QuoteBeastyBurdeny Is Chanel in and Sasha out? What happened to Sasha? I like Chanel, but am just curious what the situation is. I follow both on instagram. Chanel was with the Stones in NY, and Sasha seems to be at a rehearsal for a theater project. So it looks like your thoughts are correct…

Quotemaumau QuoteLorenzAgain It’s interesting, I have the division at home too. I love it, my girlfriend thinks it’s a bunch of Mick solo songs, overproduced and forgettable except for the blues song and Sweet Sounds That it is a bunch of Mick'solo songs/ideas of songs I think Keith himself has admitted. Exceptions: Rolling Stone Blues, Tell me straight and Driving me too hard that has bee

I really like that they don’t have Keith singing the last song. To have Tell Me Straight followed by Sweet Sounds of Heaven followed by Rolling Stone Blues… that is a masterclass in song sequencing. To me the album starts off very strong, dips a little in the middle and absolutely kills it in the end.

Quotewaterrats Quotemaumau when was the last time they played a gig to launch an album? Wasn't that this university for Bigger Bang ?? That was for launching a tour, although they did play Oh No Not You Again. It was at Juilliard I think…

They’re really out there at the moment… it’s a bit of a shame they’re doing Fallon exclusively though. Imagine how great they’d be on Graham Norton…

Hairball’s passed? One of the greats have left! And on September 9 you say? That means he likely saw the Hackney Empire press junket with Fallon, and left us three days later. I take comfort in the fact that he likely knew something good was coming up, and he also likely heard Angry… RIP Hairball

Give it time lads. There was always going to be high praise from the beginning. I reckon they bought some reviewers out. The album is what it is, and from what I’ve heard, it’s the best album we could expect this late in the game. You need to give it time. Lots of time…

QuotePaintMonkeyManBlack Keiths guitar on Rollin Stone Blues sounds more awesome than possible. My first thought as well. And it’s cool to have Mick doing harp fills.

Quotedrewmaster Bringing this thread back to the song itself, I'm starting to develop a very strange, two-part conclusion about SSOH. #1 - SSOH is their greatest song ever. Or it is, at least, their grandest and most soul-stirring and uber-epically-amazing recording ever. (Is there anyone, even on this board, who hears it and is not stirred by it? I doubt that!) #2 - It is flawed. Li

I’ve heard all snippets so far. I’ve yet to hear something I dislike. That’s really interesting, ‘cause I’ve had gripes with all their latter day albums (mostly length and quality control). It bodes well for Hackney Diamonds.

QuoteLorenzAgain How good is quality? Might not listen if it’s just a bad recording. It’s not a good recording, but it’s good enough. For someone who has been listening to Robert Johnson on tape, I’m not complaining.

QuoteTopi QuoteJumpingKentFlash QuoteTopi Would be interesting to know the story of this leak. There's a dog barking at the end of Depending On You. Someone was listening to these songs somewhere and recorded them on their phone or something? Pet Sounds 2 confirmed The dog is depending on someone. Or the other way around. Ah. Stevie Wonder was there!
