Mike Oldfield: Crises. I am sure some hate it or dismiss it as a sell-out ("An Oldfield album with a Top 10 hit?!"), still, every tune on it is memorable. I dig it a lot, have fond memories of listening to it, and my mom loves Moonlight Shadows. Fine singers (Jon, Maggie, Roger) and an exceptional drummer (Simon).

Talk Talk: Life's What You Make It (A somewhat forgotten band with a unique and instantly recognizable sound. All sounds on this album are great.) Exile should not be a contender. It is far from a greatest hits package.

The Kinks: Something Else The Animals: Animalization (Would love to include this. It's a great set, however, I have to admit this does not contain any huge hits. To me this is the Animals LP that sounds like a proper album.)

I agree. Steve Marriott and Steve Winwood were the two most soulful vocalists of the 60s. Perhaps Terry Reid is up there too. Check out the Lane-Marriott song You Spent it from the Legendary Majic Mijits album. It has the drive and feel of Start Me Up.

The Winos have their own sound. I love their energy. Waddy adds so much to this sound. And Ivan... Gosh! What a soul! The Winos are in it for the fun of it. The absence of a steady bass player shows how valuable Wyman was for the Stones. The first two Winos albums are gems. I spin them more often than many of the Stones' albums.

QuoteGasLightStreet And, of course, anything is better than MAJESTIES and DIRTY WORK, both of which would've worked much better as... EPs. I am not sure why Dirty Work has to be slammed all the time. Why do we, people, feel the need to say this is bad or that is bad? Dirty Work was the first Stones album I ever bought (vinyl). First cut is the deepest. I still play it quite frequently. It&

Quote24FPS Have you read Rolling Stone lately? They barely mentioned Charlie dying. I don't think what classic rockers are left get cover stories. They're trying to appeal to a young audience full of hip hoppers and goth chicks. It makes sense. They don't care if Neil Young puts out a new album. Nobody buys albums anyway. Rolling Stone has moved on, far from its roots, which are no

QuoteIrix QuoteProfessorWolf so what would stop them from making a new album? Insufficient ideas. For comparison: the new ABBA album - which took 40 years - got only a 3 out of 5 ranking by . I have not heard the new Abba album and I am not interested. But I don't think they actually worked on that album for 40 years. Perhaps it took them 40 years to decide to make another one?

I actually LOVE Nelson's take on "Honky Tonk Women." I love most of the songs he recorded with the Stone Canyon Band. Pick up the Legacy boxed set (4 CDs) if you aren't a completist. A fine overview of his rich career. "Rick Nelson In Concert" is one of my favourite live albums. *** The Fun Facts … As to the song “Garden Party”: The lyrics to the song provide a d

Sad, indeed. Played with so many great names. Jeff Beck does not just play with any bass player... I saw him with The Doors of the 21st Century. An unsung hero he was. Fly on!

QuoteGasLightStreet That fan base is really starting to get old. Although there's no way to gauge sales in regard to bootlegs, when sales mattered during the times of REWIND and JUMP BACK and FORTY LICKS yet alone the various studio albums within those - there is an interest in what the Stones have done amongst unfinished, half way finished and even "finished" songs that have n

Quotebitusa2012 GREAT photos BV. Tell me/us… somehow you seem to have superb pics taken from slightly above ground/pit level. They don’t seem to be taken from IN the bottom of the pit. You’re looking straight at the band, even slightly DOWN on them occasionally. Do you levitate??? If you call those by BV superb, then how would you label the "more than superb" photos taken by Hendrik M

Quotepaulspendel I'd like to support jumpingjackflash5 here. When people like omerchy61 start to swear in their response they lose the discussion anyway. Besides writing '...till the Stones put you in your place' sounds like attributing divine powers to the Stones. Which proves some posters see the Stones as some sort of religion that can't be critisized. I agree. I have not

QuoteLynd8 I personally love the album but with "Voodoo Stew", "Voodoo Brew" and the easy to obtain B-sides, we mostly have everything we need - no? I'd rather they dip back to "It's Only Rock and Roll" and clear the decks of any outtakes from 71-74 that have not gone out yet. I could not agree more. Those who dig VL so much, should be satisfied with the

QuoteKRiffhard Imo it's "Mixed Emotions" You might be right about that. However... The riff has the feel of the Talk is Cheap album. It is indeed a cool riff! But I just don't like the lyrics... Perhaps too commercial, too personal, too polished. The lyrics also lack some nastiness... I remember being so excited when Steel Wheels and Mixed Emotions came out, and I really

Quoteexilestones The Stones wouldn't even have to photoshop Bill out of the picture, just the guy in the background with the rolling Stones baseball cap. Haha. That was a good one. Could anyone dig out the song by song comments by Ben Rollins for the Complete Basement Tapes (6CD) collection? I thought I'd had it but can't seem to be able to locate it. And it's gone from the www. I'd appreciate it if someone could share it with me... Thanks in advance.
