I was recently watching a video of the New Barbarians - including the Capital Center gig in Largo which I attended-and couldn't believe how awful Ron Woods singing was (Try watching/listening to Jumping Jack Flash from that show)- after 30 seconds of stunned silence, we ended up laughing our asses off. OK singer in the studio but live it was cringe-worthy. Fun show though!

Hmmmm...I don't see anything particularly offensive. Sounds like in his own perhaps clumsy way the guy was trying to make a simple gesture of support- no different than dozen (or hundreds) of posts on this site. At least he didn't indulge in an obsessive fan fantasy that he knows the people involved, their relationships with each other, their motivations or whats best for them. Lighte

"Lola vs. Powerman..." is criminally underrated...."This Time Tomorrow", "Long Way From Home", "Strangers"...theres some really good stuff on the LP with a slightly ragged murky feel I think most classic era Stones fans would dig...of course the Kinks followed that huge international success up by doing a series of theatrical musical concept LPs that became

The Reprise 2 LP "Kink Kronikles" compilation from 1972 pretty much says it all. If you could only have one, that's the one to get.

The sound/mix on Phobia is appalling- the most brittle shiny reverbed giant snare drum 90's LA studio sheen cliché imaginable. Grating. Sounds (deservedly) dated now. Made me thankful they went out on "To the Bone", a real high note.

I've got both the LP and 2 CD set- both fantastic. The unplugged/live in the studio stuff is the best thing they've done in years. Somehow, after a string of lackluster commercial stiffs (Think Visual, UK Jive, etc) and dwindling concert audiences, on the verge of splitting up, they released a classic on a small label and almost no one bought it. A real shame. Similar to the "Di

More hot air from Rod, who apparently got interested in a Faces reunion after getting the cold shoulder from Jeff Beck. Never thought I'd say it but the guy from Simply Red sings the material way better than Rod can these days...

The Beatles were better at the ballad-pop-psychedelic artistic stuff. The Stones could out-rock the Beatles with one hand tied behind their backs.

Funny- I happened to catch Lemmy holding forth on this very topic (the contrasting images) on VH-1. Paraphrasing here- Liverpool was tough. the audiences drunk and violent, The Beatles were actually came up in a much rougher scene there and in Hamburg, while according to Lemmy, the Stones were London lightweights living with their parents. Of course, Lemmy has a big pro-Beatles bias.

Hey- just like some sage souls here at iorr opined- why not use the Kast-Off Kinks for any 2014 Kinks shows? Now it appears they very well may be! Great news.

Time to let it go- they waited too late to do The Kinks legacy justice. Like Rod and The Faces. Ten years ago maybe.......

Just saw Rod on VH-1 playing an outdoor fest in London- Download Festival I believe- with Ronnie Wood guesting at some point. Rods set- particularly his voice which is shot- was cringe inducing. Awful Vegas style revue, really depressing to see the type of vibe/arrangements he favors these days. Didn't stick around to see Woody. No wonder he wont play with The Faces -he absolutely could

Cant understand why the Davies brothers don't use the Kast-Off Kinks- all long term ex-members (I think currently its Avory-Rodford-Gibbons with John Dalton frequently subbing)- who are still out there regularly playing the classic repertoire and would be ready to go with very little prep. I hear the Kast-Offs are excellent and aren't they entitled since its the 50th Anniversary of the

No way Dave is worth anything close to Ray. And from what I've heard, Dave isn't anywhere near a millionaire, dollar or pounds sterling.

Yikes. Think I'll keep my cash, thanks anyways. Or make a movie about myself. Seeing as its a Kinks 50th anniversary observance of some type being considered, Dave's dismissive attitude towards Mick Avory and desire to use "new people" is kinda bizarre and off-putting. Ray is insisting hes only interested in hooking up if there's new music- Dave says no new music.

The final lineup with Jim Rodford, Bob Henrit, and Ian Gibbons was the tightest version of the band but I have to agree about Mick Avory- if theres a reunion tour, he's entitled- if he even wants it!

Actually there have been a couple Faces "reunions" with Rod- they came out and played a few songs with Wyman on bass as the encore of one of Rods shows in the 90's, played a couple songs live on a British music awards broadcast and maybe one or two others I've forgotten- but lets "face" it- Rod makes a lot more money and enjoys total control with his solo shtick comp

Must have been the same solo show i saw at Jammin Java in Vienna last summer- the show was kind of a downer and as I recall he only did one Faces tune and zero Small Faces tunes. Kept hoping the tempo would pick up and the mood lighten....never did. Disappointing since Id heard the gigs the previous tour with the Bump Band were really rocking awesome shows. Oh well- the guy had an awful unt

Incredibly profound and probably unfathomable to anyone who isnt American and over 40- The Andy Griffith Show in its black and white prime with Deputy Bernard P. Fife is ingrained at an almost cellular level with literally millions of us. Raise your glass to the late great Andy Griffith- see you in Mount Pilot!
