neil is very fan friendly with his catalog and archives but it helps that he is on his own. and doesn't have that "ROLLING STONES" legacy that he has to live up to. but "neil young trunk show" is great! too bad "shine a light" could not have been like that. it would have captured a small theater show perfectly.

i've never heard the champaign 69 bootleg. but i did go to the aragon show in 02 and met a guy in line from california. we got talking about boots and he said he saw the stones in 69 in champaign and snuck a crappy little cassette player into the venue and taped the show holding up a crappy little mic. it sounded horrible and he gave the tape away. years later he found a boot of champaign 69

detroit '81 tour. the king biscut flower hour taped the silverdome shows. they basically broadcast a double album version of STILL LIFE. it starts with mick saying 'down in front; don't push about too much' and then it goes into keith doing the dirtiest opening ever for the song. loud raunchy vicious. everything that was good about the '81 tour.

there's one thing that no one ever mentions about the '78 tour. during that summer they did not know what was going to happen with keith's court case in the fall. they had a press ban to some extent and i always felt that they were going to enjoy that tour on their terms, period. touring on what they know is a great album. good mix of theaters and stadiums. all the "bad"

i saw neil in november at the chicago theater. 5000 people i guess. he was GREAT! did his usual solo acoustic then brought out his band for some LOUD rock n roll. it's a die-hard setlist though. really good if you know your neil from front to back.
