I agree about the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts. I know that's a cliche, but cliches are cliches for a reason. EOMS fits this cliche perfectly, as does The Beatles White Album. Funny seeing this cause I just happened to sign up to Google Play yesterday and was having my huge iTunes library streaming through it for when I use my android over my iPhone or iPod.
