Oh my goodness, what a loss for the world of music (esp. when you´re in your 40ies)! I saw Soundgarden live in concert about 7 times between 1992 (Cornell w/ long hair!) and 1996 and Cornell and Eddie Vedder at the sidestage of Lollapallooza 1992 in Tempe, AZ. What a genius on stage. I don´t have LA Friday on my screen right now, but I guess KR recorded that song and still plays it in an open-E tuning with six strings. The fingerings (is that how you call it?) are similar to open-G (one string lower each, of course), but you get the deep drowning e string into play that way.
