Oh man, the line is really moving fast. Solid guitar player from a terrific band. The Skynyrd band did it on their terms, and while their members are gone, the music they made will continue to resonate. RIP Gary

Quotebluenote Quotefilstan I just finished the first two books by Andrew Oldham, Stoned and 2Stoned. I have a hefty Rolling Stones library, but somehow with these two books I just never got around to reading them. While listening to some old Stones vinyl a few weeks ago, and reading the back cover notes by Andrew, it occurred to me that he wrote these two books and that I MUST finally pursue them

QuoteTornAndFried It is real, but it is not a ticket to an actual Stones concert. It's a ticket to a showing of the concert film "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones" It was a big event when it came out in the spring of 1974 and in several cities like New York, LA, Chicago, etc. they showed it in large theaters with a JBL quadrophonic sound system, and sold reserved tickets th

QuoteRockman UK mono of Aftermath ..... another gem ... essential Undoubtably high quality those mono UK Decca 1966 LK 4786's. Nothing missing there with highs, mids, and bottom sound. Those pressings are the real deal, and set the sound quality bar very high. Essential indeed!

QuoteRockman If there are gems in the mono box sets it is probably the mono TSMR. YES mono Their Satanic Majesties is a must have .... A real wowser of a surprise. Hell, I would have bought the mono when I was a kid, but who knew? I was 14 and figured the stereo cost more so it should be better... Funny though I bought half of the early stuff in mono. We were playing those records on some si

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteIrix Quotetreaclefingers Has anyone ever compared those early mono albums in 64-69 with the 2016 box set, or the 2023? Maybe in the 2016 thread about the original Mono Box - ? thx Irix! A trip down memory lane. I listened to my ffrr and London red label mono copies of the early albums through OOOH while switching back and forth with the 2016 mono box set reco

For all you big spender collectors out there, anyone do a side by side sound quality comparison with the new colored vinyl box vs the initial 2016 black vinyl mono set? I can only viably compare the 2016 mono box with original release mono ffrr copies. Sure, I have some original purchase US London mono copies from when I was a little kid to throw into the mix, but really those ffrr mono records s

Wow, solid stuff. What a treat to hear on a snowy day in late January. Thanks for posting this up for us! Hope there is more music of this quality from that day in 1969.

The exit line is really moving faster for the musicians of this age group. Crosby was a giant given his contributions. His vocal prowess alone was spectacular, but really, he was the total package. The recently released Neil Young Harvest box set has the documentary Harvest Time included which is imo a must see on it's own, but the bits where Crosby Stills and Nash are adding backing vocals

Terrible news. Christine certainly came off as a class act. A stalwart musical creator within Fleetwood Mac and a great song writer. Such sad news to hear of her passing. RIP

QuoteCristiano Radtke Created between January and September 1971, this docu-film takes us on an intimate journey to Young’s farm in Northern California for the ‘Harvest Barn’ sessions, to London for an iconic performance with the London Symphony Orchestra and to Nashville where the then 20 something Neil Young worked on various tracks of this signature album. The feature is a fan piece that h

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has been a bad standing joke for years. Great bands were excluded(ignored)for way to long. The institution lost credibility long ago in my eyes. Basically, bands that hung around long enough, get in now. What criteria gets bands/musicians in? What keeps them out? Of course, there is no accounting for "good" or "bad" taste in music, which is a f

Decent read about Charlie and his life. Lots of interesting tidbits, and numerous colorful anecdotes dot this history of the much beloved "Wembley Whammer". For serious Stones fans it's certainly worth reading.

Good post. It has been long debated about which recording is the finest quality. The first time I head this was back in the 70's via Saturated Recordworks out of Australia and titled The Rolling Stones A Tour De Force 2S701. I did a back to back listen tonight and this release beats the Royal Sound cut by a wide margin. All I know is the sound is damn good. Are the track lists the same, no.

If the mono box set is to be repressed on colored or clear vinyl so be it. It's all rumor at this point, although Amazon was taking orders for awhile earlier this year. I purchased this box set of records for the music. Whether the price goes up or down is of no concern to me. If more people get access to this fantastic sounding music I think it is a good thing assuming the quality would b

I was at the Chicago Park West concert Saturday night. It's a good band. Campbell adjusting well into front man role. His guitar artistry is top notch. Loved his rendition of Little Queenie as an encore! Knobs did less Heartbreakers material than I expected. Great version of Southern Accent I think found Campbell choked up with emotion. Had to be hard losing his buddy. Nearing 69 years of ag

I think it is important to remember that while Stevie Wonders band was indeed a great opening act, in no way could they touch what the Stones brought on that tour. I was 19 at that time and saw 2 shows. Chicago and Denver. The Rolling Stones were a seriously powerful band on the 1972 tour.
