"and I think that behind his joking exterior there is much depth to him, which he keeps hidden in his very British way." Back to the topic! Bassplayer: agree 100% And may I add that although it is undenyable that rw nowdays does not play the way he did years ago (and I am not saying he can't), and for sure his bum notes ratio is getting worse, still I relate to his s

The internet is starting to get small! In the thread of some days ago re: what kind of collection you have, I posted "I can remember that around the days of the steel wheels tour I actually started to collect boots and stuff. Then I met this guy, the brother of a friend of mine who actually used to be one of the most popular Italian bootleggers (and probably still is, I don't kn

Gazza: Is the solo "single" version of U edited? If it is not I'll burn a copy of the Atlantic City 19/12/89 show for my friend. By the way, what guitar was he using for Undercover (or SFTD)? My memories oof the SW tour are quite faded by now. It can't be his old suburst strato, can't it? C

Let me re-phrase it. I am not saying that works like 1979 or AST were bad. I am saying that a part from some fusion or latin contamination, and a part from the fact that he now doesn't use a pick so often, basically what you hear on his post stone stuff is what he was while with the stones. Which is great, btw. This is not true for K, just compare his guitar work during the Taylor years

The following are just random considerations that come after listening to 70-73 boots and post stones MT stuff. 1. MT is/was an incredible guitarist 2. OT: ron wood was also absolutely amazing. I am not interested in discussing who was the best between the two. 3. MT needs a "back bone". I don't like (just a matter of taste) how he relates to the drumming when he plays

A friend of mine told me that he heard a live version of undercover of the night featuring a super solo and asked me who could have played it. He told me that it wasn't a typical stones sound and technically-whise the solo was particulary well done (he is not a stones fan but he is a very good guitar player). As far as I can remember there are no versions of U with guest guitarists. Tru

Another example could be Bowie's r'n'r suicide. We used to play it in A (I don't know if the original is in that key, but that is how our singer wanted it) and a melodic minor fitted just like "cacio" cheese on "maccheroni" pasta, as we would call it! C

I can remember that around the days of the steel wheels tour I actually started to collect boots and stuff. Then I met this guy, the brother of a friend of mine who actually used to be one of the most popular Italian bootleggers (and probably still is, I don't know) and I realized what a "true" collection was about. I swear: he had a whole room full (and I mean FULL) of all possi

The story of the young guitarist who whithout even the time of realising what was happening jumped from JM's blues band into the shoes of BJ as lead guitar of one of the most popular acts in the world, and that after 4 years of great music and sell out tours (and with the possibility of earning amounts he could only dream of if he had remained with JM) decides to quit only because he did n

Never made up my mind about this one. All in all it ain't bad, there are some great solos etc., but it is too depressive, and I can't stand depressive music. Sure it is a mess. Wyman is almost absent. Most songs were recorded in Jamaica, yet it is not at all a sunny LP. Blame drugs for this. Funny thing is that MT didn't like the album either, notwithstanding he was involved

A very cheap (15 singapore dollars) sony mixer (4 inputs, 1 stereo red/white output), 4 avarage microphones (can't remember the brand) and a once very good stereo Hitachi VTR: for many years (when my band was a little more serious) I used this stuff to record my music. May I add: with excellent results, considering the equipment. A couple of years ago, since the band was falling apart

Funny: I have just been listening to the 1999 version of the same song. Also this version was played not too bad, but it was not one of jagger's best performances ... I agree that what makes the original take something more than a sweet ballad is that last verse, "Yeah I'm coming home ... " I don't think they can't do it anymore. It's all a matter of dynamic

This would be impossible for one simple reason: only Mick, Charlie and Keith are there from the early days. One thing is to play standard blues (all you have to do is give the key) another is to play structured songs. If the band doesn't know the song, then it can't play it. C

Mathijs is right. People like Keith or Hendrix are often pointed out as examples of guitarists who could play some wonderful music without knowing any theory at all. This is nonsense. Now I am quite sure that Keith never practiced scales with a metronome and that when he played something he did not refer to music books. On the other hand his music is there to prove that he knew damn well

I found this on an Italian guitar site: could be useful if you want to replace the pu on your fender and you don't know what to choose. It does not matter if you don't understand Italian. The guy who posted the article made a comparison between the main pu available for a stratocaster JASON LOLLAR, HARMONIC DESIGN, KINMAN, FENDER, JOE BARDEN, TOM ANDERSON, and recorded a short demo
