I love his guitar work with Dylan. He traverses the whole spectrum from the ethereal joy of Jokerman to the downright sinister heard on Watchtower. Pure rock n roll on Highway 61 to dirty swamp slide on Tombstone Blues.

Quoteroryfaninva Thats it in a nutshell. Recalling from Mac's book that Mick Taylor spent the tour "doctor shopping" to get pain pills (which Mac admitted sharing in) and that one particular evening was so zonked out that they couldnt wake him up for the gig. Dylans management fired him but after a few hours of pondering what the band would sound like with only Dylans distinctiv

QuoteMathijs QuoteTravelinMan In fact, Keith Richards and Ron Wood are much more lazy, they just have the Stones machine to put them where they need to be and when. No, they ARE the Stones machine. It's them spending months and months in the studio to write and record. And look at Wood -the moment the Stones aren't touring he immediately organizes some shows with friends, does radi

QuoteDandelionPowderman That may be true. However, Jagger already had Leather Jacket, and they chose not to proceed with it. Correct, as they chose not to with Separately, which was co-written with Keith Richards. That isn't to say these songs wouldn't have been used on a future album like Tattoo You if Taylor hadn't quit. The fact is, Taylor didn't really sta

Something happens with Clapton's amp, and Mick steps in! First and only time he took a solo on this song the whole tour. (Second break not where he jumps in on the first break. Strangely Santana didn't solo on this)

QuoteTaylor1 I have been disappointed in Taylor’s solo career. His emphasis on playing mostly Chicago blues the last 30 years is just not that stimulating.Instead of 20 minute version of It Hurts Me Too , I wish he had donesomething more experimental, like working with a Brian Eno. Or doing something with a Paul McCartney. I think his melodic guitar would have fit McCartney’s music while giving it

Taylor’s debut album is great and it actually received favorable reviews when it was released. He didn’t tour and promote it for some reason though and I believe that created a contemptuous view of the music industry. Without that early momentum his solo career didn’t take off. Stone’s Throw is really good as well. I don’t understand why he doesn’t release a bunch of the stuff he has “in the c

He played in front of crowds that dwarfed the crowds he played with during his Stones period. And guess what? They LOVED it!

QuoteDandelionPowderman I don't agree with that. He did some cool things in 1989. By 1994 his playing had detoriated a bit. Then came 9 years with boozing that effected his playing a lot. When the 50 & Counting-tour started I thought he was brilliant. He might have been a tad weaker this tour, but considering what he has been through (something I know a lot about), I think you sh

QuoteFP Two questions. Did Mick Taylor ever enjoy being a Rolling Stone? He said in Stones in Exile doc that he found it "fun" but without much conviction and every other interview I read he doesn't seem to give much away, although he does seem to regret leaving. Second question, if he had not left, would he have been kicked out by Mick or Keith at some point, to be replaced

QuoteMathijs QuoteTravelinMan It's definitely a Leslie speaker, or a Uni-Vibe. No its not -it's the Varitone of the ES-355 on setting 2 or 3. Mathijs I thought that was just a notch filter. On the iso tracks (posted somewhere here I believe) there is definitely some watery chorusing.

QuoteFP Btw on our list of Taylor licks, I have to add the harmony to the intro riff on Rock's Off. It has the same Leslie tone as his buried leady parts, also adding a guitar harmony feels more of a Taylor move. I am also leaning towards Travelin Man's idea that the outro lead part is from a different take, or an overdub, than the earlier buried licks as it does not have a Leslie e
