I go back with REM to maybe two months after Murmur came out and was seriously obsessed with them (Peter Buck, especially) for quite awhile. I loved Hi Fi, was somewhat moved by Reveal, but had all but given up on them. Then the guitars and no-BS songs on Accelerate blew me away. REM was fun again!!! I have listened to Collapse once through and have heard some songs several times -- and I'm

QuoteSwayStones As in Under My Thumb , "the squirming dog who just had her day" I am not sure of how I interpreted it since I am may be wrong with the translation but obviously ,calling a woman a dog is very despicable imo . Plus I don't know if ,by " day" Jagger refered to women's periods - I had always thought that Jagger said "dates " instead of

QuoteBashlets I liked ABB, however the lyrics are embarassing for people over 60. Stop singing about "cocks"like Rough Justice. There is a long list of great bluesmen who never stopped singing about cocks.

Quotealimente For me, at least for me, Luxury is brilliant because it sounds so natural, like a fun live session in the studio. I really like Luxury's groove, but Mick's faux Jamaican accent sinks the song for me like it's wearing cement shoes. It's embarrassing. (And then he goes and does the same thing on Hot Stuff. Oy.) I'll always listen to One Hit To The Body or

Last year, I downloaded a torrent with pdfs of issues of Rolling Stone magazine from its first two years (1967-1968). Looking through those, there are dozens and dozens and dozens of half-page and full-page ads for major label albums from bands I have never heard of. They came, released an album or two (I guess), then vanished. ... Every single year -- 1968, 1975, 1981, 1987, 1994, 2003, 2010 ...

Thanks for the link. QuoteFor last year's splashy reissue of the Stones' much-revered "Exile on Main St" from 1972, Mr. Was combed through 200 hours of unreleased recordings. ... He said some 40 songs left off the original still hold up. I wish the splashy reissue had included a few more of those 40 songs.

REM - Murmur GnR - Appetite for Destruction Mats - Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash The Clash (US version) Bangles - All Over The Place What else? Maybe X, though I like Wild Gift and More Fun a lot more. VHI kicks serious ass, but Fair Warning is their best, imo. EC's My Aim Is True was a blast of fresh air, but he left it in the dust immediately.

I would have gladly had half-assed stuff right out of the can, untouched since 1971. Or give us 2-3 alt takes of some never-booted Exile tracks like Casino Boogie or Rocks Off or the development of Tumbling Dice? Didn't Keith have a vocal take of Rip This Joint? If so, where is that? How about the original Happy run-through with Keith, Jimmy, and Bobby? Would any fan honestly give a shit

AFD is a desert island disc for me, but I'm not sure I could fill even one side of vinyl from all of I & II. A huge bloated disappointment. I have not played either of them in years, but all I can think of off the top of my head is Bad Obsession and Right Next Door To Hell -- and maybe You Could Be Mine.

QuoteStonesTod Quotebuffalo7478 Just because you love something doesn't mean you can't find flaws with it, or want it to be better. and that doesn't make u simply negative in general? Like a relationship. You may not like your partner 100% of the time -- he or she might be selfish, make you sad, seemingly refuse to understand you, make you wanna throw shit all over the place --

Anyone else remember the great concert review Robert Palmer had in Rolling Stone in 1981? It was the October 26 Atlanta show at the Fox Theater. Palmer is one of my favourite music writers and this piece was pure gold. He says the show was jaw-droppingly good and describes many of the songs, then finally admits that towards the end, all he has in his notebook is stuff like "!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QuoteJumpingKentFlash Yeah. And if Sinatra sang it today, he'd sound exactly like Keith. Okay, this is seriously funny. I also hate Sinatra. I am undoubtedly ignorant of his style, but he always sounds like a parody of that kind of music/singing.

My wife and I (both in our late 40s) love the Stones and see eye to eye on just about everything, but she hates -- HATES!!! -- Wild Horses and Angie. Not that I want to play WH every day, but I am still not sure exactly why she hates it so much. & She likes: Cherry Oh Baby. I hate: Cherry Oh Baby. We were emailing about Keith's solo stuff yesterday and she wrote: "This is
