Quotetonyc ... Brandi Carlile was great, too, with Madman Across The Water and Skyline Pigeon. According to Pete Townshend, Elton recorded a new album with her: ... I believe it was after hearing her debut album... or maybe it was The Story, I forget... Elton sought Brandi Carlile out, brought her to his house, mentored her, and is a huge fan of hers. He was fascinated by her songwritin

Lol, most of my Searches on IORR fail miserably, which was again the case Apr 13 when I was looking for an OT: Elton thread. I posted this on '"Listening to this minute?" instead. Anyway, don't miss this performance. ____________ Elton John & Bernie Taupin were awarded this year's Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. A tribute concert was held at

I also only just learned this: An article about the Feelies in the July 16, 2013 Paris Review quotes Demme as saying "there's never been any greater American band" than them. The article reports that what Demme wanted to make was a movie about the Feelies, but they were so little known that no one would finance it. Instead, he made "Stop Making Sense."

Two nights ago I saw the Feelies in DC. They still play occasionally, and Saturday (lapping over into Sunday) put on a 3 hour, 36 song, 5 encore show. From north Jersey, they were fellow CBGB scene skittish and jittery nerd rockers with the Talking Heads. What I didn't know is that Jonathan Demme did a Feelies music video. It's great. Away (3:40) Sep. 2, 1988 in Hoboken NJ, filme

QuoteTheflyingDutchman QuoteGazza The closer you get to the opening night without openers being named suggests it'll be the bloody Ghosthounds again, as they pay the Stones to be their support act. Business to the utmost. Gonna see the Feelies tonight in DC and been catching up on them. They released an album of all VU covers last year. Read the below and it made me wistful for the da

I'm not a big fan of the albums that bracket it -- Steel Wheels and Bridges to Babylon -- but Voodoo Lounge, yes. I'd be down for a 30th anniversary deluxe remaster with outtakes from that. (Or, if it's ABB, I'd buy that too.)

Elton John & Bernie Taupin were awarded this year's Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. A tribute concert was held at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on March 20. It aired on PBS this past Monday night, April 8, 2024. Of the tribute performances my favorite was Bennie and the Jets performed by a guy who I didn't even who he was. Jacob Lusk

Gary Clark Jr. is awesome. I saw him last summer... 8th row. (And there was a drunk couple 7th row, other side. The guy was stupid and noisey, "Gary" this and "Gary" that, like they were pals and the concert was all for him. Clark didn't put up with him for long. "HEY. Don't be yelling at me all night. Motherf*cker." To laughter, applause, and gratitude

Little Richard: I Am Everything is a available on bluray and dvd. I bought the bluray a month or so ago. It's very good, and so is the PBS docu King and Queen of Rock and Roll. There's a good amount of overlap between them. They share some of the interview bits of the Stones -- different edits of the same video sources.

Like some others here, I'm a big Samantha Fish fan and think she'd be an ideal opening act for the Stones. I told her that two or three years ago (she's such a trouper, she'll sign your stuff and chat after every show). And she's a road warrior, has truly paid her dues... unlike American oligarch Thomas Tull who just writes a big check to jump the line and buy the Stones&

Hop over to Youtube find their Oct 3, 2023 posted performance of "Impressively Average" But that would be if they were interested in giving a boost to a promising new rock band. Which they're not. Every cardboard packaged cd I get, I put into small ziplock baggies. Give me the old plastic cases any day, fragile hinges and all, over cardboard packaging. The old 1980s heavy duty plastic cases being the best; in fact when I run across places dumping old cds for next to nothing, I'll buy some cds I don't want to then toss them if they're in the heavier cases that are still in go

I'm not a N.Young Archives subscriber, and hadn't seen or heard the news about this tour. So I'm glad I browsed here today. For the DC area show, for First Tier (Sections 101 - 103), Rows A - J's standard price (including fees) is $319. (Many seats in those sections also are Platinum priced.) First Tier Row K is one of those pricing "sweet spot" rows, where a shar

Quotetreaclefingers Very sad. My favourite version of Ruby Tuesday. I have to agree with that... and just think how many good or great covers of Ruby Tuesday exist out there. That cover, and (Lay Down) Candles In The Rain were such monster hits at the time... deservedly. I keep my couple of Melanie cds in with my "Peaceniks and Flower Children of the 60s & 70s" music.

A cover of an Elvis classic by an 18 yo who when 3 yrs old was abandoned by her abusive mother in a town north of Vladivostok, in winter. In an orphanage for two years she spoke very little, and that was with a bad speech impediment. Learning to sing was how she re-learned to speak. This is an Elvis cover quite out of the ordinary.

Condolences. I'm not liking these still young-ish deaths in the community. But, whatever one's age when it happens, I contend that Stones music adds at least a year or two to a fan's life. How could it not? Which means my own muleheaded nephews down in North Carolina won't be getting that bonus. My best efforts couldn't swing them on board with the Stones and other gre

"Goodbye, Jimmy Reed" is the consensus most fun song on Bob Dylan's 2020 Rough & Rowdy Ways, in that it rocks & rolls the most. Live: He plays it (nearly or?) every show this tour, lately as the next-to-last song, #16 or #17. In 1958 wife and husband Mary Lee Reed and Jimmy wrote, and Jimmy recorded for Vee-Jay Records, "Down In Virginia," blues tha
