my comment earlier about "paperback writer" was tongue in cheek, but in Mark Lewisohn's "The Complete Beatles Chronicle" p. 218 tape operator Phil McDonalds notes on the session leaves room for doubt about who performed the riff in the studio. Also according to "Rolling With The Stones" Bill Wyman states on p 239 that the first time the band saw Hendrix perform(u

is the full aud. recording thats available on cd better than the one song thats on the old Swinging Pig release? maybe thats why it sounds so terrible to me wedged between the sbs. or maybe a lower gen. copy is out there?

also would have liked to see the performance of "Down Home Girl"!! or even just hear it other than the crappy aud. version thats on all the boots. I mean all the other songs have surfaced in Sb and not this? Has anyone ran across it in the SB version?

with sssoul, finally located my copy and watched it about three times. You're right Keith kicks it of and then it seems he's playing the riff up on the neck while MT is playing the standard chord position. During the "hey hey baby.." part they both have their hands in the exact same position! On the last verse I cant see Keith but can clearly see MT and he is definately NOT pl

I gooogled Covays Mercy,Mercy and found a guy on Youtube demonstrating the guitar and claiming Hendrix played it. The definitive Don Covay on razor and tie label 1994 lists lots of guitarists but Hendrix is not among them. theres an album being auctioned through ebay as Don Covays claiming the lead guitarist on Mercy is Hendrix but as you read further down they say its "probable" that i

guess you didnt want to address Mercy Mercy, but sssoul has a point. Anyone who plays guitar knows that TLT riff is not a slide riff. As far as Brians slide capabilities he's one of the all-time greats. But interpeting blues(like LRR) is not writing blues. Although Led Zeppelin seems to think so. Hey, I love Zep but at least change a word or two before making Wolfs "Killing Floor"

I also mailordered this book in 73 as a 16 year old and it really began my love affair with the band(even though I clearly remember the sullivan 60s shows and the local am radio station running a "whos no 1" between beatles and stones). While I consider it the stones bible, even though so much has happened to nearly make it obsolete one can always return to it to refresh accurate info. IF you go by the assumption that Bill is correct),with the exception of Sister Morphine-Sticky Fingers was started at Muscle Shoals dec. 69 and completed with the strings overdub at Trident(London) Jan 71. The songs he specifically addresses are: You Gotta Move,Brown Sugar,Wild Horses(Muscle Shoals),Midnight Mile,S

I dont know who did what but it would show alot of class for the stones orginization to fix this. I cant believe Mick J. and keith would be responsible for this pettiness(well maybe Mick!) Everyone knows the band was at its most artistic strength with taylor. Whats right is right.

You are correct Sssoul. once again I fall way short of articulating my thoughts. I guess I meant a demo(especially with the ability to overdub) can be the same "basic" recording and different at the same time. I'm not even sure if that makes sense!! But to answer your question the complete text: From the video version and also the original Ron Wood home demo The Stones used to buil
