1964. I'm 55 so by 1963 I was aware of the hit parade, noticed Come On & I Wanna Be Your Man, but it was Not Fade Away on Ready Steady Go that confirmed the Stonesaholic I have become.

No expectations by a mile. That oh-so-sad slide guitar has always done it for me, & the lyrics, to cry your heart out to. If I want to listen to Robert Johnson then I'll put on a Robert Johnson record (still got em), or I'll play the thing myself.

First of all here's a pic of (possibly) that same 12-string that I posted yesterday on the Brian's guitars thread, but it ain't a Guild. Note the plastic pegs. Secondly, sorry, but Ruby is in the key of C. The chords of the first line are Am - G - F - G - C The 3rd line goes - Am - D - G , & that D chord might be the confusing factor. What this means is that if Keit

!@#$% feel a bit ancient here. I just joined up a week ago, I'm 55 tho. First saw the Stones on tv in '64 doing Not Fade Away. First show was Toronto '72, they were in their heyday then. Nothing could touch them.

Here 'tis If you don't know about rapidshare, scroll down the first page & click on 'free', then scroll down the second page & there she is. There appear to be 3 versions of the Rio 4/11/98 concert, all SNBD from the same broadcast. Sister Morphine 'Stoned in Rio de Janeiro' & the 20 bit version 'They'll Stone You in Rio de Janeir

Didn't know Kazaa was still up, thought they'd gone offline after the recent court decision, I could never find any decent Stones stuff there anyway. For mp3s WinMx was my choice for a long time, lotsa Stones boots there, tho again, they've gone offline tho there is a fix, you have to add stuff to the directory. Do a google for the latest patches. Newsgroups appear to be anot

Yes the thin body semi-acoustic is a Gibson, the Maton is more similar to his Gretsch in size & only one cutaway. Now what is this 12 string, can't figure out the name. It isn't Keith's Harmony, the tuning heads are different. I'm guessing Epiphone. found it here

The 4 trax are easily available on 'Beat Beat Beat at The Beeb', Long John Baldry did the intros. You had to turn your radio on for one channel & your tv for the other.

All the pix of Keith holding/playing a 12-string appear to be one & the same guitar. The pix of the guitar by itself doesn't appear to be the same one.The tailpiece is different & the pickguard has been removed. If I bought Keith's guitar I wouldn't modify it at all. I might change the tailpiece but I'd keep the original & put it back on if I were going to re-sell

At the Melbourne Bigger Bang cd launch a while back a fellow dj said he had contact with someone in the office @ Rod Laver Arena & that it had been booked for april. No confirmation on that yet tho.

It was brilliant, we're a sports mad country, Australian Rules Football, Cricket, Rugby. Soccer has taken a while to get a foothold here, my Aussie born wife can't stand it, I try to explain the tactics, the set up, etc. but she just doesn't see it. But even she was glued to the radio tonight. It wasn't broadcast on free tv but you could hear the stadium was packed & right

I've also always thought Ray Davies was one of the most underrated songwriters from this period. I saw then only once at the Guildford Odeon, just south of London, would have been 1965/66. There were 4-5 bands on before & they were the headliners. We went nuts.

In 1972 I was living in Toronto, Canada, & the Stones were coming thru to do 2 shows at the Maple Leaf Gardens. The local radio station CHUM Fm was running trivia competitions on air & the winner of each one got 2 tickets & 5-6 records. There was one question asked & no-one could get it. I knew the answer & tried to get thru for 1/2 hour but the phones were always tied up. I h

Can't help you with the Lucky Stars Special, my memory isn't that good, but chances are I did watch it. They promoted these shows & as there was only an hour on Wed & an hour on Fri nights we watched them all avidly. The 6 string Sovereigns were a big guitar, bigger than the dreadnought, I don't know if the 12-strings had the 'Sovereign' designatin even tho the

I always thought there was a 12-string on Little Red Rooster but I also recall seeing them lyp-sync the song on TV & I remember it was a cutaway acoustic that Keith was playing. The b/w pic that Rockman posted is of that session, as are the pix on p.158 of Rolling With The Stones, so I was mistaken & it's the Framus he uses on that track A couple of the Harmony 12-string, one

Yup, Dreadnought refers to the size of a guitar, named after the current big battleships, & the first ones were brought out in the early 1900's by Martin. Tons more info about this & other models on the Martin site www.martinguitars.com Martin & Gibson were the 2 big quality guitar companies in the this period & we tend to use their size designations when referring to gui

Now we've got this, anyone else got any pix of Brian with the Burns? Given the riotous behaviour at these early gigs, I wonder if they tried using their non-fave guitars in the expectation of being mobbed & so if the equipment got damaged it wouldn't be such a great loss to them?

Sherlock vox12string here... The other Gibson that had 6 in a line tuning pegs in this period was the Trini Lopez model. There were 2 types, one a thin ES-type with rounded shoulders, a & another fatter version with sharp cutaways. But this isn't the guitar Brian's got at Manchester '64. I re-scanned that section & as soon as I spotted the little bit of pickguard jus

Not sure what model it is, could be a 'Sovereign' model, notice the 2 different tailpieces both are typical of these guitars so there may be 2 different ones here. The Oscar Schmidt Co. made 12-strings before & just after the war under the brand name 'Stella'. All the old blues guys such as Blind Willie McTell & Leadbelly used them. They were nice on the outside &a

I posted this in the Keith's guitar thread before I noticed this one, but it bears repeating here. The Vox 12 string is the guitar Brian used on 'Its All Over Now'. I remember it well. I was 14, had a cheap guitar & of course dreamed of owning something decent, so I took an interest in what they were playing from the first. I recall noticing this Vox being used at the time f
