yes John Carr, was trying to recall that name. Sorry to hear of his misfortunes, hope he is over them now. Really was a nice publication and I sorely miss it. Honestly, this current forum is some kind of replacement for it, though I haven't been here in years and maybe never posted before this past week or so. Altamont anniversary did it for me, got me back into whats happening on Stones pla

Thanks again, Rockman. I might have to spring for it then, curious mostly to see how the SACDs sound. "plenty of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"...well maybe not, its all relative you know, wouldn't be able to finance Keith's lifestyle for more than a couple days without going tits up! one love jb

I was wondering if anyone here could fill me in on whatever happened to the SFJ publication? I used to buy it/subscribe to it for a long time but then it kinda disappeared. I don't recall if my sub ran out or what. But I really used to enjoy it and its concentration on new ROIO (is that term used anymore? "Recordings of Illegitimate Origin") releases and the active trading that spr

Rockman I want to thank you for addressing my questions. Its not really a matter of money for me, I got plenty (ha ha). Its a matter of buying some value for my money. Yeah I got the original (actually numerous ones, mono/stereo, USA/UK pressings, Japanese pressings etc) but because I am one who considers it in the top 3 of their releases ever, I am always looking for a serious upgrade. I would l

I wish they would do another tribute cover version LP like Blue and Lonesome, only this time cover reggae music and make sure the royalties get to original JA artists. I thought Blue and Lonesome was brilliant, and that is something I never thought I would be saying again at this late stage of the game. one love jb

What am I missing here? Seems like another lame ABKCO (beware of ABKCO...) attempt to resell their catalog. Is there something more than the mono/stereo mixes and some kind of collectors printed dreck here? What is on the SACDs? (I assume they are just the mono and stereo versions again...am I wrong?) Oh and the 7"...have the original and the grooves are spread across the whole side not b

Nobody likes Muswell Hillbillies? Amazing, I thought it was their very best LP by a long shot, right from the first listening. Songwriting to match the best in the genre and magnificent little sketches of a lost life and lifestyle. Every song was a winner to my ears. Probably didn't sell much though, too cerebral for mere rock fans. The expanded version of a couple years ago actually added s

I remember the Record Exchange in Sacto, I usually bought my boots locally at Markee Records on 10th street from Keith and Donnie, Dennis Newhall and Mick Martin were regulars there and I struck up a friendship with Keith and Dennis especially. Great times in a little hole in the wall...got on to Nick Lowe there as well, later on. I don't think MarKee and Record Exchange were in existance at

>As far as I know, Stonesvault only post FLAC files which have always been free to >convert. I am a bit confused by this. I too took all day to download a couple files only to find nothing I had would play them. they are "rar" suffix files. so I looked at this link you provided, a whole software package that is "easy to use" (have heard that before) but no mentio

Live'r Than You Will Ever Be for me as well, showed up in Village Music, Mill Valley, about three weeks after I saw them in Oakland. I was blown away. Biggest impact on me though had to be Out On Bail, Bedspring Symphony, and that Sonic Barbeque set. And Welcome to New York too. Some great stuff back then. Looking through this thread is bringing back memories. jb

the thing to remember is, maybe 10,000 people had a shitty experience that day. That leaves 290,000 who had an ok or even good day. I was one of the latter although I knew bad shit was going on. Most of it that I saw was pretty much asked for, like the cat kicking an Angels motorcycle, or the fat naked dude who had been stomping and punching people in the audience with his "dancing" rig

did I read that right...the stones did a second set at Altamont? no they didn't, not unless you count a break to sort out the chaos. My understanding is that Bear/Owsley recorded the whole thing and his estate is in possession of the tapes. See Bears Sonic Journals. But they will never be let out. Never say never. I have The Killer Festival by VGP and its pretty good for an audience
