HalfNanker, I was 15 too! Crazy. Yes...Screaming Jay Hawkins was bizarre...I didn't know what to make of him. I had heard that James Brown was lined up to open those two shows at the Garden and either he and his band missed the plane or he dropped out at the last minute...Screaming Jay Hawkins happened to be in NYC and he was hired as a last minute fill in. Does anybody have any pictures from the Tattoo You Tour show at MSG Nov 13, 1981? It was my first Stones show...I didn't have a ticket...I paid my friends friends dad who was a security guard at MSG to walk me and my friend in. He charged us $125 a piece...which I paid the whole $250...Emptied my communion money against my Mom's will...Best Money I ever spent. Tickets were $14.50 at

Make No Mistake alone blows away anything on "She's The Boss" and "Primitive Cool"...Talk Is Cheap put the Stones back together. At the time, Mick was panned by the press and Keith was glorified for Talk Is Cheap...It had Mick shaking in his boots as it turned out that Keith might actually be the Stone with a solo career. Though I listen to Ron Wood's solo albums

Hairball, You are right. My point was a bit confusing. I guess what I really wanted to know if these signature songs by these U.S. artists are as overplayed in other countries as they are in U.S. Does that makes sense? And I was curious to know what people from other countries considered U.S. Rock songs overplayed in their countries. Pecman

More Hot Rocks, Yes...you are correct...a list of overplayed American Rock songs. That was my point in all of this...I was curious what American Rock songs are popular in other Countries. I tried to list all the songs I am so sick of hearing in the U.S. Pecman

I live in New York and I'm curious what Stones fans outside the United States consider the top 12 Biggest Rock songs of all time by a U.S. Artist for popularity and influence...Stones fans in the U.S...free to chime in too. BTW - I hate Bon Jovi but I have to give credit where it's due: Mine are in no particular order: Hotel California - Eagles Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen

And on his Best of Collection on Rhino... He played Bass on "Charmed Life". I happen to think he is one of the most rounded musicians out there. The guy plays everything...jack of all trades...master of none is the saying... but I will say a new saying..."master of jack of all trades". Pecman

QuoteGasLightStreet QuotePecman I stand by my statement. The Edge is a magician...not a guitar player. The amount of effects on the stage at his feet and on top of his amp is ridiculous. Johnny Ramone and Steve Jones blow him away because they played from the heart and their fingers... The Edge plays through technology...a big difference. Any great song can be played on acoustic guita

Rattle & Hum had more hits on it than the Joshua Tree...but not as many big hits. The problem with Rattle & Hum was people were burnt out by the over exposure and success of the Joshua Tree which was a monster release for a couple of years...With Rattle & Hum...the exploration of Americana seemed forced...like "hey...we are in this crowd now"...with the Hendrix and Dylan

QuoteSocrates1 The Edge has pretty much always played with a delay pedal, right? Their sound is based on airy-loops like that. Except for their first two albums, which sounded more like 80s punk and that band called The Alarm. U2 probably started with their delay-pedal-sound on War, and then especially on Unforgettable Fire..is that about right? So, U2's hallmark guitar-sound is one

Happy24 I liked what you said in your response to my opinion... that's really a good point about the Mozart comparison. I guess my point in all of this is The Edge doesn't compose a song and play the guitar from the soul and the fingers..he plays it through the mind and the experimentation of technology and the search for new and interesting sounds as opposed to plugging in and f

keefriff 99 Yes...I agree with you 100%! And you can lump Michael Anthony of Van Halen in that group of lucky bass players. The true talent of U-2 is their manager Paul McGuiness. He was asked to sell a broken down used car to the world and made the world believe they were buying a Mercedes Benz. Except for The Joshua Tree...which is masterpiece! The rest of it is under-rated a

My point is the Edge hides behind his lack of talent as a guitar player with Effects. He is a mediocre guitar player at best...But is a master using effects. If you put him in an acoustic situation or a straight plug the electric guitar in the amp...he couldn't play his own songs. And Adam Clayton...oh my God...besides the bass riff in New Years Day...the guy has made a career of playi

The fact is...If the Edge took the stage with an electric guitar, a cable and an amp...he wouldn't be able to play most of his songs without all those effects which started from day one with "I Will Follow"...on Keith's side of the street...there would be no issue...that's why U-2 is always chasing The Stones. I do believe U-2 are good song writers and have unnecessari

I can't understand the Stones relationship distance with the Eagles, Tom Petty, Bob Segar, John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen (but not of late), Jackson Brown etc....Hugely Iconic American artists.
