Quotejahisnotdead If it's so good, why didn't the Stones release it themselves? Exactly. And you raise some excellent questions in your original post, jahisnotdead. At this point, the Stones will always be recognized as the greatest rock and roll band of the 20th century. But that doesn't mean they can do whatever they want without hurting their legacy. I think continuing

I love and have always loved Mick's style and wardrobe through the ages. I wonder how many different shirts he's been photographed wearing (anyone keeping track?) And I wonder what he does with all the shirts after he wears them. Idle thoughts on a sleepy Sunday. Drew

QuoteShott I want to not like it as too wimpy in the "sweethearts together" basket, but I like it when I hear it. Funny how music chooses us, not the other way 'round! Drew

I've always wondered how much input the Glimmer Twins have into Charlie's drumming when they're all recording tracks in the studio. How often they'll offer suggestions (e.g., an extra tap on the hi-hat here, a snare roll there, etc.) Or if they leave Charlie alone to do his thing. Drew

QuoteGasLightStreet The front part of the song, right from the beginning, is just so wonky sounding. As it gets going it does sound better but unfortunately that's just how SG sounds overall. Which worked great for radio - Miss You, BOB and Shattered sound great on radio thanks to the massive compression of FM radio. I agree. But what's weird is how awesome ER (the whole album) sounds

QuoteDoxa But seriously, the idea about not being a 'good', but 'great' album begs some questions. Does Mick consider, say, A BIGGER BANG and BRIDGES TO BABYLON as 'great' albums? That the material they have come up with by now isn't qualitywise in that level yet? If not, will that mean that they didn't really do their best at the time when making those alb

What an utterly useless review of the new album in Rolling Stone. Macca could fart for 45 minutes and they would ooh and ahh. Drew

Quotegotdablouse it reminds me of something I can't quite place? It reminds me a bit of Hide Your Love. With a hint of Under the Radar, perhaps. Anyway, it sounds bloody fantastic. And just look at Jagger. 77 and still looking and sounding absolutely mesmerizing. Drew

QuoteMathijs With rock bands, I think American bands are more flash, more theatrics, more 'good fun', whereas European bands tend to be more serious and self conscious. The difference between Stones and Aerosmith. American bands more often have this entertainment, or Las vegas aspect to them. Wow! My view is exactly the opposite. So many European (often British) artists are/were &

Just watched this for the first time, and didn’t enjoy it I’m sorry to say. Unlikable and uninteresting two-faced characters. Dialogue feels stilted and scripted and it’s hard to understand what anyone is saying. Nice setting but blandly shot. Mick was ok I suppose but IMO his least interesting and convincing role ever. A very unpleasant film. To paraphrase a character from a much better film

Quotedcba My guess is, by the early 80's when coke started to make serious damage (it almost killed Marty Scorcese) super-sly Mick realized it was time to back down. Thank God Mick was sly enough - i.e., smart enough - to lay off the stuff that's killed, or almost killed, many other greats. Bowie looks like he came pretty close in this interview. I'm no doctor but I wonder if

Obviously a ton has been written about Keith's relationship with heroine, but Mick's cocaine usage is far less documented. Any details out there? For example, when did he first use it? When (if at all) was he a regular/heavy user? When did he stop? Drew

QuoteHairball This tune billows from the bowels of the distant past....echoing the dark and ominous yet it's uplifting and joyous at the same time. Fulfills it's rightful spot on Exile, just as every other track has it's rightful place - I'd love to hear a 20 minute extended version of this. Agree 100%. Is it possible an extended version is locked in the vaults somewhere?
