QuoteRockmanHey that's wild!!!.....It's kinda like if ya could only hear the vibrator at a 10 girl orgy... Yeah but that vibrator would have to be REALLY loud...maybe 100 watts? Anyway, what's the chances of all those girls at the orgy keeping quiet long enough so you could hear the vibrator? Not good I'd venture....lol!

QuoteDandelionPowdermanWhat's the Em(7?) chord shape that Keith is using in open-g tuning? I know where it is but Em doesn't sound right. Maybe it's a sus4? The riff is Em sus/Em 7 (simplified, without the pinky) If you mean in 'Struggle' it's the Em with the second string note moved up two frets?

What's the Em(7?) chord shape that

I must say I really like this song. Ok, it's a 'pop' song, but it's a good one. I have to say Carly Simon is a great singer and sexy too. What more could you ask for? Really, it's all about guys like you and I, although it's seen from a woman's standpoint. It's a little tongue in cheek but it hits a nerve at the same time. JMHO

Quotebenon againQuoteMathijsIt's almost impossible to play and sound like the Stones -in fact, so impossible that the real Stones have a very difficult time to sound remotely like "classic" Stones since Bill Wyman left. And that's the key to the Stones: the core of the band (Jagger, Richards, Watts and Wyman) have this chemistry that is imposisble to copy or duplicate. It'

QuoteskipstoneI have played Struggle in open G, just like Keith did on SNL. It's not hard. It's interesting. Hmmmm, I'd have thought it was a bit of a struggle playing that in open-g? Lol!

QuoteskipstoneYeah, the B sharp was a joke. I know it's a capo at the 7th fret. In standard. A-440 and all that. Child is in open D. Duh, forgot. Open something. Struggle is open G. He hits the E minor and it sounds like it's about to die. It's perfeect. The live version I saw him play on that SNL show was open G. One Hit sounds like open G to me. In standard that jumping

QuoteHis MajestyQuoteskipstoneOne Hit is in open G - Keith's guitar is anyway. Sway is in open G - Mick Jagger's guitar is anyway. Rocks Off is standard. Luxury is open G. Child Of The Moon is open G because Keith said it was. Midnight Rambler is in B sharp only down half a step in standard with a capo...CAUSE I'M OLD GREGG! The studio recording of Child of the Mo

QuoteDandelionPowderman<On Hit To The Body - open G Rocks Off - original 1 guitar track - open G> You can achieve a similar effect of what Keith plays when you tune up to open G minor. Same thing with Struggle (I actually thought for a while he tuned up like this for the song. Later found out he does it in standard tuning). The boogie with the dark E-string on Rock's Off howev

Quoteliddas Finally, the day I will see someone who has been playing the guitar for one year, play the blues as keith does, well that day I will believe in miracles! C I agree liddas, although they say that a certain Robert Johnson may have done exactly that - although he may have sold his soul to the Devil to achieve it....lol!

QuoteSpudMy problem is that I can't play like anybody except Keith. I think years of absorbing the Stones maybe alters the way you hear things and your sense of timing. I'm far from an accomplished guitar player. But if I sit in with a band playing blues or RnB, folks often remark on how they liked the way it jumped and swung. One quote was "...Great ! It's lost tha

QuoteMathijsand before I forget: of course keith is a terrible player. He doesn't have any technique, he doesn't have a clue about chords and scales, and most of the classic years he was too drunk or stoned. But -he played all HIS songs, and he played HIS songs like no other can, with a band that until '83 was the best R&R band in the world. Check the 8-track Gimme Shelter.

Quotepaulr15sorry this is probably for another thread. but....god i wish i knew how to play guitar. Any advice on how to get started out when your in your late thirties. I hope it's never too late. Do I start with acoustic or electric? Love both - which is easiest? I teach guitar, mainly to beginners, so I guess I can answer this question. I'm teaching one of my neighbours to pl

QuotejamesfdouglasGetting 'that feel'... I fully understand the nuances of what this means. 'Playing 3-4 open chords is one thing, playing like Keef... that's comething else'.... With all due respect - duh. I was trying to wipe that out of the equation from the get-go. While it's a valid argument, it's also one that people must understand, and it'

QuoteEdith GroveIt's watching stuff like this that makes me wish someone would hurry up and invent the time machine. There's a rumour going around that the time machine has already been invented, which seems highly likely to me. The problem is that the guy who invented it is living in the future and he's just gone back to 1969. I don't think he can be bothered to show everyo

QuoteMathijs. To this day I feel they should have quit when Wyman left. Mathijs I understand that sentiment, but it's like any band really. If/when a member of Flip the Switch left the band should everyone else give up too? We've had to replace a guitarist recently and you just don't get the same thing with somebody else playing - but you can't expect to either, ca

QuoteDoxaQuoteJMARKOAs difficult as any other, maybe even more so due to the element of 'feel' that you mention. It's technically 'easy' to play a 'simple' form of music called the blues. It's far more challenging to play it well and convey it's feel. Much of this is based on the imprecision in the sound and playing -- INTENTIONAL imprecision. Mu

QuoteGreen Lady But it's still lovely to see how the songs themselves - even the inaccurate copies - have the power to get a whole room full of people dancing and singing along, and probably always will. Yes, that part of it has always intrigued me. Often I've seen bands playing Stones songs, and not been at all impressed with their version but it doesn't stop people dancing...
