They played it live at that club gig in Boston on the Licks tour. On the boot it sounds tremendous.

Totally agree, 71Tele. The Singer Not The Song is excellent and, in fact, I consider a classic, warts and all. Another underrated classic: Sad Day. Rare B-side that's absolutely excellent in terms of feel, groove, production values, and lyrics.

'I'm Movin' On' from December's Children. A wild roller coaster ride that somehow resolves perfectly, with Mick screaming 'OWWW!!!' at the end as the audience literally goes wild. (... and then, famously, the first notes of 'I'm Alright' are heard as the record fades - possibly making for the worst Stones intro of all time!)

Is it known for sure whether Warhol in fact was ever paid? And does anyone know how much? It's surprising how many of these projects, done for the famous by the famous, end up happening for free.

I love both versions. Dobie Gray's is an absolute all-time classic, but the Stones' is damn good in my opinion - Mick's clipped, tough-sounding vocals, raw yet sensitive guitars, and booming foot from Charlie. Agree with those who wish this would get released soon.

Keith does that from time to time - he's had the occasional flub all the way back to '69 at least (refer to his background riff on Live With Me from Liv'R Than You'll Ever Be). On the other hand, KR's SFTD solo in Atlantic City in '06 was absolutely sizzling.

Oooh, Palace Rev 2K, really sorry to read about your injury. Agree with The Joker: a deep dive into Stones boots of all shapes, sizes and colors - it's got to help. And while we're on the topic, how does 'London Roundhouse' rate for everyone? A very strange show. I personally like that boot a lot, but I've always wondered: is there a recording of the full show any

Wait a minute, I can definitely imagine Mick singing 'Don't Pull Your Love Out On Me Baby' and giving it his trademarked lyrically indecipherable treatment. Especially if they dumb it down to three chords with Keef chugging away on his open-tune 5-string. I bet KR would make it sound positively mean. Charlie could do a little hi-hat trick every second measure like on '

It's not Keith's or Mick's foot nor a microphone, it's double hits on the bass drum, along with some hi-hat. As to why Charlie would do this, well, the Stones definitely experimented at MSG, as witnessed by their superb 'Under My Thumb/I'm Free' medley, which among other things featured MT using feedback on a really fine solo. ... But note that this is the v

I'm listening to the famous and excellent audience boot 'Stoned MSG' - you can definitely hear Charlie doing double hits on his foot pedal on Prodigal Son, especially toward the end of the song; also, you can hear high hat (besides the crowd clapping). Not saying someone didn't further fill that out in the studio later. But I'm a big fan of the '69 boots, and I&#

That's great news if Mick T. is well off financially. Really hope it's truly the case.

'She's a Rainbow' wasn't very high intensity when they played it live. Reasonably tight but definitely not energetic. After the song the crowd applauded rather than cheered. Mick said something like 'You're too kind.' 'Play With Fire' from (I think) Toronto in (I think) '89 was absolutely stunning. And the audience REALLY liked it. Keith

The career advice I'd offer Mick Taylor would be to continue to avoid listening to people like us when we offer someone like Mick Taylor 'career advice'.

How about a compromise: Mick T. agrees to 'standby' status as insurance against Ronnie not being sober/alive enough for another tour. Mick T. attends rehearsals and doesn't play loud enough to aggravate Keith. I bet Mick J. would agree to let the Stones' next corporate sponsor retain Mick T. for £500,000 ... with said £ to come out of Ronnie's pay, naturally!

If Mick T. is owed royalties, are we sure that it's actually the Stones who owe them to him? The royalties for some of the records he played on are owned by ABKCO, not Mick and Keith. As for the EOMS through IORR albums and singles, songwriting royalties for the few tunes he co-wrote would be paid to Taylor via BMI or another service, right? Regarding any payment to Taylor for

I was there at Cow Palace for both shows. You are all correct: 1. The shows were definitely in 1975, not 1976. 2. Ticket prices were more like $8.50 each. (FYI, tickets for the Winterland, SF shows in 1972 were about $5.50 each). 3. Also, the Doobie Brothers did not open. I believe it was the Meters for both concerts.

Absolutely! And let's not forget the Licks tour, with tremendous versions of Heart of Stone, She Smiled Sweetly, and more. Not to mention a thoroughly bizarre medley of Yesterday's Papers/Goin' Home back in the 1960's. All great stuff! Can't wait to hear what R&B number they'll dust off next year. How about some Parliament-Funkadelic? 'Tear The Roo

Bowe: Really nice scratchy guitar on 'Last Man Standing', backed by funky bass and drums. The second guitar works well too. Your vocals are strong and have real personality - the song is introspective yet rocks at the same time. I'm hearing other good things off this album as well: very good stuff!

still ill: you are so right! Same old paint by numbers reviews of the Stones - not to mention just about every other album, novel, film, etc. It never changes. BTW, I bought this magazine when I was a kid in '69, scarce realizing that I myself would end up seeing the Stones on that tour! So obviously I LOVE this thread!
