Mick's lost the raw energy of his youth. He may sing the songs today but there's a real lack of vitality. Those performances in the 70s had me hanging on every note.

I think it's an odd question to ask because it depends what is meant by the term best. Is it clearest/cleanest because if it is that style of production really runs against what the Stones are really all about. I don't particuarly like the production on Voodoo Lounge it's to clean and clinical - the Stones best music shouldn't sound like this although it's not half as bad

I think people who desperately love the Stones don't was to see them tarnish their reputation.I don't think it makes them any less Stones fans. When i look at the legacy of great music they have left i hate the idea of them trickling to an end as they get more and more incapable of reaching those incredible standards set in their prime. Their music is primarily raw rock 'n' ro

Black And Blue is very well produced.

I think Open G is basically right. Obviously Ron at his peak could play but compared with Mick Taylor he pales. You only have to listen to the live Stones bootlegs to know the difference. Listen to Street Fighting Man, Gimmie Shelter and Love In Vain Taylor era and Wood era and compare.

My head says Exile is the best but my heart's with Goats Head Soup. Doxa makes some very good points as always - the more typical Stones material is the least convincing on Goat's Head Soup e.g. Star Star and Silver Train. I would also agree Hide Your Love isn't a particuarly strong song but it hardly matters. This is an example where the strongest songs are not always the most eff

Great compilation of unreleased tracks. The only negative feature is many of the tracks don't actually fit together very well in one listening.

It's an average Stones ballad which does have similarities to Let It Loose in places but it's far, far less convincing.

I think it's a patchy album with a few memorable moments. It's very true the Stones were jumping on the psychedelic bandwagon but i do believe this music gives the Stones output more variety. Citadel, She's A Rainbow and 2000 Light Years From Home are Stones classics and there's only Sing This All Together(See What Happens), Gomper and On With The Show that i'm really not

It's difficult to say as Mick and Keith are bound to have differing views. Personally i really like Emotional Rescue(the song) i'd put that on a best of compilation along with Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker), Hot Stuff, Fool To Cry, Waiting On A Friend,Backstreet Girl, Lady Jane and Yesterday's Papers. There's some variety there and some less than typical Stones songs. I wouldn&#

Knowing Mick he will be investigating the latest trendy sounds hoping to inject a little contemporary sounds into the mix. The last think Mick wants to be thought of is a nostalgia act so i can't help but think the hope for a raw, bluesy album is a little in vain. Who knows? - we may all be surprised.

I'd love to hear Let It Loose live too but i am very doubtful these days Mick could pull it off. I've not heard him sing with such raw energy for a very long time ans i fail to see the comparison with That's How Strong My Love Is. Let It Loose is a real epic stax influenced soul song which requies Mick to really stretch his voice and hold the notes. It shouldn't be attemped un

I haven't heard any Gimmie Shelter versions to touch the original or the live 72-73 versions which take on a different feel. The versions i have heard in more recent years are all a very pale imitation of the original despite Lisa spirited singing.

There's an element of truth in the staement concerning Hot Rocks or Forty Licks -at least with those albums you get a flavour of the different aspects of the Stones music. As great as Get Yer Ya Ya's is it only represents the Stones live sound in 1969.

I think Mick's taste in women has become a lot more superficial as he's got older. Sure Marianne was beautiful but there was also a cultured aspect to her that influenced Mick and filtered through to the music. Bianca was a little headstrong and not really cut out to accept Mick's lifestyle. When i see her on occasions these days she is adressing political issues. I think Mick is

Mick is in a difficult position, i feel. He has such a strongly identifiable image particuarly in live performance he feels committed to playing that role for the rest of his career. His situation is very different to Dylan, Mccartney and many of the other veterans who have been able to adapt to the aging process and while their music may not be up to the standard of their best years they have be

Get Yer Ya Ya's Out! is undoubtedly a great live album and definitely the very best the Stones have released officially. I actually believe it's the only official live album that really reflects the Stones at ther best. The earlier album Got Live If You Want It is brimming with energy but is technically poor and the later albums are mediocre for a group with the Stones reputation. Sym

1310. Hot Stuff
Hot Stuff has the distinction of being Mick's daughter Jade's favourite Stones song. I actually think this is the best funk influenced song in the Stones career as well as one of the standout tracks on Black And Blue. It's nice to see the Stones covering new ground, absorbing contemporary influences and achieving something which is utterly convincing. I really do love Mick's

I'd liked to have heard Brown Sugar at Altamont. I'd also like that version of Satisfaction from the movie on CD.

Little Red Rooster is the only pure blues single the Stones released and against the advice of critics and Andrew Loog Oldham who felt the song was too uncommercial it made number one in Britain. It is often rumoured even at this early point in the Stones career Brian Jones was isolated from the rest of the group. Despite the fact Brian played a very prominant role in this song (slide guitar) ap

It's fascinating how fans views tend to vary so much when particuarly to my mind the question of who's best seems so clear cut but everyone is entitled to their opinions. Having seen Mick Taylor twice recently with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers i know he hasn't lost his touch. Whether he would be as consistant as in his youth is questionable but it would certainly be interestin

I don't see how the Stones could maintain a long lasting career while behaving dangerously - they have been sensible. They are now really just a business venture.

The quality of the song Fool To Cry has recently been brought to my attention several times in recent months by the DJ David Jensen. He is always insistant that this song reflects the Stones at their very best and i must say when lined up alongside the many classics on his show it stands up very well. It's a ballad that Stones fans have never really taken to their hearts it's also

Of course Mick and Keith are the key to the success of the Stones with their songwriting and arrangements. The Stones output pre- Mick Taylor would still make them my favourite band and i also very much enjoyed the broad variety of sounds Brian brought to the group - he really did enrich their sound but if we are talking about the primary style which the Stones are most noted for and best suited

This is another classic song that has been very much neglected. Listening to the early version Get A Line On You the quality of this soul/gospel song really does shine through. It's the type of song i feel the Stones could always make a success of playing - it was included on Stripped but apart from that it has been very much neglected for over thirty years . I don't think it's a

The bootleg Get Your Leeds Lungs Out! or Live At Leeds amongst other titles is often cited as one of the Stones very best live bootlegs but i actually believe it's actually a rather mediocre performance particuarly when compared with the standard set in this period of the Stones career. There are so many songs here that the Stones had performed so brilliantly in the 69-73 period but they ju

I understand your point but Mick Taylor's contribution cannot be denied. I love the Stones and play their music constantly and Taylor's era is the best. As a fan particuarly when listening to live bootlegs i find it impossible not to have favourite moments and prefererences. It's also difficult not to compare the contributions of the various members.Technically Mick Taylor is so

I agree with Open G - I find Mick Taylor far more interesting these days to see live than the current Stones. His act has more to do with musical quality and less to do with the spectacle.
