The Stones at their best have absolutely no need for overdubs. Leave that to studio recordings that you can layer, replace or eliminate parts as you see fit. Live recordings are just that, live and imperfect. The shows from '69-'73 could not be any better. The '71 tour shows are the best example of their skills as live musicians with spontaneity and energy that they show during

I'm just referring to Keith's voice. He sings considerably better than the other Texas shows, The Philadelphia shows and Pittsburgh. I almost wonder if the whole performance of Happy is a studio rehearsal of the song that maybe they pasted into L&G because the audience sounds like an addition to the song more so than the rest of the movie. Just an observation which may be comple

Keith's singing seems to be at a level that he never reached on any of the other versions of Happy during the '72 tour. For example the outtake version from one of the other Texas shows is much more similar to all of the other versions vocally. It's not as obvious to me as Happy on LYL. I'm not certain that it is a vocal overdub but it's just sonically so much better t

I think the overdubs in L&G are limited to Happy. There may be others. As far as GYYYO I think the main issue is that they are just unnecessary. It's a live show. Why fake it? They are tasteful as opposed to many of them on LYL

The overdubs on the "Keep Your Motor Running" boot are terrible. They are so obvious and poorly done. I can't imagine those were anything other than raw early efforts that were not seriously considered for release. The overdubs on GYYYO and LYL are more polished but are still often awful (Happy and Keith adding backing for Tumbling Dice!!!)

I don't quite understand the "public domain" issue. After 50 years what does it matter if the recordings are still in a vault somewhere and no one can get their hands on the recording anyway. We still won't have a 1972 release in January 2023 if the Stones don't want us to have it

It's interesting to try to evaluate what is going on regarding the filming. It seems to be from the original 16mm film that looks like it is being shown on a projector screen which is then being filmed in order to make a copy for YouTube, etc. I don't think it could be from an 8mm/super8mm handheld camera because the amount of film is likely too long for that as well as the focusing m

I don't know what the music that is playing for L&G but the intro before the New York shows was 2000 Light Years From Home at least that's what is playing before Brown Sugar on the Dick Cavett broadcast. I don't if that was played before any other shows

I would think there must exist a 16 track recording from each of the 4 shows that were recorded for L&G. Any reason why they wouldn’t exist?

It has always interested me why the sound of L&G is so bad relative to what the Stones should have released in a concert film. Strangely the Rolling Stone magazine review from 1974 (above) states that "the sound is both good and loud". I also remember seeing the movie and thinking the sound was good. Now the sound is lousy. I wonder if when the film was made and played as in

I remember thinking there were some interesting clips back when it came out. Now all of those videos are available. I believe the '69 stuff is Ed Sullivan. Nothing from '73. '76 is from the Hey Negrita promo

I guess to me Rock and Roll means "before the British invasion" Blues Suede Shoes -Carl Perkins, the original and best version Something Else -Eddie Cochran, cars and girls, isn't that what RnR is about Jailhouse Rock -Elvis because there has to be something from Elvis Race With The Devil -Gene Vincent. One of the greatest guitar riffs and solos ever. No guitar effect

I guess one of the points I didn't clarify was that I wonder if there is any access to the Stones' people through some other means? Most of us are not youngsters and are likely not great at social media. Take this site for example. It is very 2001 and not very 2021 (and please that is absolutely no disrespect to IORR which I dearly love and have been reading for as long as I can reme

I agree with the statement that we just don't know what is in the vault. But if you look at what we know with certainty; all 4 Texas shows were recorded in '72, that the Philly shows in '72 as we have heard the overdubs. The '72 MSG shows were likely recorded. It is known that the Stones wanted to release a '72 tour album and would have recorded many shows to chose fro

We know there are extensive recordings of the '78 and '81 tours. My belief is that they have numerous earlier shows recorded as well. The Stones were ahead of the curve when it came to audio and light effects at shows. They also have long been the wealthiest touring band out there. I just can't believe that the number of shows they have available wouldn't just blow our m

But why would Springsteen and Neil Young and others have them and not the Stones? We know they recorded a bunch of shows from '75-'76 for Love You Live and just sampled a few of them. They most definitely recorded those others I listed above as well and almost certainly all on 16 track recordings. They are all analog and are degrading in the vaults

Is there anyone who has the ear of someone important in the Stones organization? It's been pointed out many times in this site that people are getting older and there won't be a market for the Stones artifacts that are sitting there in the vaults gathering dust and rotting away. We know there has to be countless shows from the "golden era" that are ripe for the pickings. It

The James Hunter Six are without question the best blue-eyed soul band out there. They are subtle, creative and smooth. Never loud or abrasive. Each and every album is excellent. James Hunter is a a talent. The closest style I can compare him to would be the early 60's soul in the vein of "Pouring Water on a Drowning Man"(by James Carr), "Every Little Bit Hurts"(by
