Tops has sentimental value to me. When I was younger, my dad would take me to work with him in NYC. I'd have my CD player with me and I remember when I brought TATTOO YOU with me once. When the song Tops came on, I remember sitting by the window looking out at the busy streets of NYC. When he finished up work, we'd take the Subway downtown to the West Village and walk around, going to v

QuoteHis Majesty QuoteJordyLicks96 Saying they lack in any real emotion is a bold statement. It's a pov i've encountered numerous times outside of stones forums. Fair imo as, to my ears's it takes the stones some time to hit the jackpot, but of course when they do. Oh my! They are not master musicians that can hide behind technique or use technique to tap in to the

QuoteHis Majesty Quotenoughties ...just old school. Blame it on all the new bands back then. Well, there is a degree of fakeness to them. A coldness too. Even ridiculous. White boy blues and all that. A lot of their stuff sounds cool, but is quite lacking in any real emotion. But, that aloofness is a notable part of their whole image and sound. It shouldn't work, but more often

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotenonfilter I’ve never heard much discussion here or anywhere else about Keith Richards’s slide playing. People praise Mick Taylor’s abilities on slide, and sometimes, Ronnie Wood’s. But, honestly, Keith’s slide that fills in most of the gaps with no vocals on the Let It Bleed album are my personal favorite slide guitar parts I’ve ever heard. Yet, he rarely played sl

Unfortunately the output post TATTOO YOU isn't of the very best material they've put out. Still, there are those very few great latter day Stones tracks that still stand up with their best. Out Of Control is a song I could never really get into until recently. I absolutely love that song. It's a song made to play on stage, very dramatic, like a latter day Midnight Rambler.

Hmmm, Think I'm Going Mad is interesting because it technically was recorded during the EMOTIONAL RESCUE sessions but wasn't released until '84 as the B-side of S

Thank you!! Hard to tell if the last one is an instrumental or not, but is definitely different than the other circulating versions during the SOME GIRLS Sessions.

I'm in the minority here, this song never did anything for me. I think it'd be a good song for another group, but as a Stones song, it's rather weak. To me, there's no substance in it. It feels like a song that was left unfinished. Maybe that's why it was left off of the original version of A BIGGER BANG.

Mick's also playing rhythm guitar, so there's a lot of guitars on that - 3 guitars on the actual track before any overdubs. That's Mick (playing the first thing you hear)... I've always thought Mick would be a great heavy metal rhythm guitar player. He's very aggressive in a freestyle kind of way. That started more or less with SOME GIRLS. A lot of those tracks had an extra edge to them with his guitar added. A strong example of his heavy guitar playing it "Hold on to Your Hat" from STEEL WHEELS. The Glimmer Twins thrash on both guitars and it

Quotebye bye johnny Fortnight is two weeks. Phoner was likely done last month when Keith was doing press for the "Talk Is Cheap" reissue. So I guess he's saying they recorded more tracks two weeks ago, meaning in February? I hope something new will come out later this year.
