Your suspicions are quite justified, GJV. So-called rehearsal tapes of "You Can't Always Get what You Want" and "Parachute Woman",both with film sprocket noise, began to circulate in '75 or '76,and were soon bootlegged on RSVP's "Gravestones/Rape of the Vaults". I did not list them as sources to this new set because I have not heard all of the Mis

Here are the sources for some of the audio material on this release: 1) the multiple takes of "A Quick One (While He's Away) by The Who are from a well-circulated DAT recording 2) the three songs by Taj Mahal are from his CD "In Progress And In Motion (disc one)"; 3) the various mixes of Dirty Mac's "Yer Blues/Whole Lotta Yoko" are from a) "British Blues J

When I listen to early African-American music, and the way it is presented, both lyrically and melodically, I often wonder, did they conceive their composition as an immediate expression, or as a "living indictment" of their condition? If I were a young person researching the antecedents of British blues, I would pay attention to the groups that genuinely reflect that.

Apologies, Mick. An incessant guitar figure is only the ballast for words that anyone on the street can remember and repeat.

My "complete loyalty to The Stones" consists of continuing (however feebly), their aesthetic of great songwriting. Number one is "the hook" - that great, compelling lick. The kind of note combination that cuts through all the incessant , bloody rubbish that we're reluctantly obliged to daily endure. A riff that, when one analyzes it, appears simple, but within a two-and-

Would someone kindly re-post UrbanSteel's Philly '72 2nd show? I would very much appreciate it. In the meantime, I'm contacting a couple of old traders who have copies of my '72 boards to see whether the reels are in good enough condition to play back and upload. Thanks, Dave.

I'd like to see Mick walking through carriages in a train while singing, and with every section of the song there are bits of conversation that further his lyrics, either by contrast or illumination.

After a stressful day at work, I always take a trip on the late bus, and, while listening to the unsolicited, sententious outbursts of fellow passengers. I imagine that I'm an avant garde artist secretly recording them, then "looping" choice phrases to a backbeat for my next CD.

Alimente, it is indeed possible that Urban Steel had access to a very low generation analogue dub of these recordings, which I first heard about during summer '75. Back then I was heavily into recording live concerts and trading tapes with other collectors. (I almost met Mike Millard, but that's something for another post). Anyway, among the constellation revolving around The Stones were

I really like the versions by Them (Decca vinyl 1965), The Animals (Ed Sullivan 1965) and The Flamin' Groovies (live in Europe and Scandanavia 1987)

On Easter weekend I the early seventies, KSAN-FM (San Francisco) broadcast a two-day radio special called "Roll Away The Stone". I remember listening to most of it on Saturday. The only thing they played of interest was "too Many Cooks", which has since been released. Sunday afternoon, however, I arrived home from work only to receive a shock: the DJ was playing the Oakland 9

The film crew were using portable mikes to record the Rolling Stones. Had they recorded a tape playback the sound quality would have been "off-line" or "monster mix". So, it was better for them to be able to use an excellent "in-line" quality studio recording of "Wild Horses". That's what I meant. Sorry I wasn't more specific

I began to seriously study guitar after buying a copy of "Live'r" in late 69 or early '70. "Live'r", "Sticky", "Let It Bleed" and "Ya- yas" were albums we listened to intensely. You can imagine the thrill of hearing a dream come true, an outtake of CYHMK, a song I know so well for decades. That's why I am always seeking unrelea

One of these recently sold on eil.com. It was advertised as a "pre-production acetate" with 9 songs, all ternate takes and different stereo mixes. In exchange for a CD or download I can offer original photos from '69, '78 and '81; original uncroppedphoto from cover of 1st LP; numerous still sealed mono London label albums, including promos .... So were the Muscle Shoals songs "flown in", that is, added later to the movie soundtrack? The reason I ask is because they display studio quality stereo.

The Cow Palace '75 shows were taped by Mike Millard. All circulating copies reflect his penchant for "marking" copies he gave to friends.

The black velvet jacket that Keith wore on the '73 tour may be a bespoke design by Lloyd Johnson. The reason I assert this is because The Flamin' Groovies had the exact same jackets made for them by Mr.Johnson in '72. One of his identifying characteristics is the rounded lapel.

Keith, Mick and Brian wore bespoke snakeskin boots from The Chelsea Cobbler, a bespoke shoe store, which was located at 50 Kings Road, just across the street from the Chelsea Drugstore at 49 Kings Road. I know because I have a pair. There are many pictures of Keith wearing them: The '69 tour program, Hyde Park and Isle of Wight festivals, among others
