QuoteHairball During Pauls set, I overheard a couple of young knuckleheads refer to it as 'Granny Rock'. Wonder what they thought of the Stones...probably 'Grandpa Rock'. Lennon once notoriously referred to some of Paul's songs as "granny music", one of those being "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La_Da", which was in the set. Was it during or after that number?

People see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear -- even going so far as to speak for the Stones themselves as to how they're feeling (miserable, passionless, etc.). Yet they still follow along for every show, spilling their vitriol and demanding that everyone else see and hear things just as they do. I recommend the Havana boot -- not so much for the performance of the b

QuoteMileHigh You know, we now live in the information age. But sadly, and sometimes scarily we also live in the disinformation age. It's sometimes hard to distinguish the information from the disinformation. For example, I watched the movie Interstellar, and it was boring crap. It was so bad I didn't care about the outcome of the story. After I saw it, I didn't even mull it over i

Well, if we can't say anything bad about the song preview for the new album, then we can at least rip on the cover art and have several pages about the worst album covers. Hey! When the album finally does get released, we can devote 5 or more pages to the worst album liner notes. It's only rock n' roll, but we like (to criticize) it.

So I listened to the Keith solo in Sympathy For The Devil as posted above, and I can't see the problem many here have with it. But I can see why the Stones don't go out of their way to cater to the "hardcore" margin of their fan base -- because they could never do right, never play the perfect enough list of songs, and never play said songs well enough. In the case of th

First off, to address the comments about McCartney's voice not being what it once was: Mick is a singer, whereas Paul tends to be a shouter. Mick Jagger technically and properly sings, one of only a handful of rock vocalists who ever have, which is why his voice remains ageless. McCartney on the other hand, because he is only sing-talking, and in other cases merely sing-shouting (read

Those who continually complain about set lists really are quite amusing. For most people, a Stones concert is an occasion as opposed to an ongoing obsession. Most people don't hang on every note of every show wondering why the same show never changes. These are the songs the collective consciousness of pop culture has chosen to embrace, so these are the songs of the ages that are celebrat

Quotelem motlow Quotecyclist Quotelem motlow the last day of grammy eligibilty is friday which makes me think they'll release the entire disc. most of the time when it looks like they're doing something random there's really a business decision behind it. they used to record in jamaica, germany, france, london, los angeles etc and it gave us an image of a band that liked to keep m

I'm not familiar with Scottish movies, but my vote goes to Trainspotting--at least it has the right accent for it. Because the director is Scottish that makes it a Scottish film? That's like saying that just because Prince Rupert was their business manager it makes The Stones Bavarian royalty.

Well, I saw Crossfire Hurricane several times before in the early 1990s, when it was under the title of 25X5. So, it's nice to have 25X5 back again in a somewhat edited form, but Charlie Is My Darling is something I'd never seen before but only heard about, and is about as revealing and intimate a portrait of the early Stones as we are ever likely to get.

I guess they couldn't use Bill Wyman for this track, at least for the studio version. There was an issue over songwriting royalties at the time, because Jagger/Richards were mistakenly credited. This led to a write-up in Rolling Stone the following year: It's more than just a matter of credit where credit is due; anyone who copyrights a song is paid composer royalties for any reco

Louis Jordan's guitarist Carl Hogan was a big influence on Chuck Berry, enough for Berry to copy Hogan note for note.

I don't buy bad albums--because, why would I? It would be like purchasing an item of food you don't like and would never want to eat. Let's say you don't like broccoli soup--you wouldn't buy a container of the stuff just so you could ask someone else what the worst-tasting food item they own is. There are enough crap albums out there as it is. Let's not encour

There's something iconically significant about Miss You. The burned-out 60s reprobate still looking for a party in 1978, a bit like Gregg Allman's call to arms in 1994, No One Left To Run With Anymore. There's a sense of desperation and loss over the torn relationships from years ago, of still looking for the thrill that was just there a few moments ago but has somehow just e

Ray Davies has put out a couple of great solo albums since 2000, albums strong enough to make you think that if The Kinks ever do reform they could be more than just a nostalgia act, but an actual going concern again....

Quoteangee The one I'm talking about from 1986, if indeed it was the cover, has all five, by Annie Leibovitz. A search through magazine covers for 1986 by Rolling Stone shows that they did not make the cover that year: However, the photo you describe by Annie Leibovitz seems to have been a full-page ad: Of note, the five Stones were featured on the cover of Musician that year

I recall a magazine cover with all five not from Rolling Stone in 1986, but from Time in 1989.

QuoteHis Majesty Quotestone66 This photo is from earlier than June 67 when Hendrix played sgt pepper etc. That's okay, because the video clip I posted of Hendrix playing Sgt. Pepper was later than the June 67 performance. It seems there is neither a photographic record of The Beatles watching Hendrix in performance at that particular show in existence nor a film clip of Hen

Quotepmk251 Again, anyone who has seen Taylor play or watched any of his interviews knows what high regard he has for Hendrix' abilities. Taylor is obviously proud to have met the man. By his own words he first met him as a very young man in San Francisco when Jimi and the Bluesbreakers were on the bill. I think an original poster from those shows is valuable. Other musicians held him a
