He designed the iconic posters for the New Zealand and Australia shows in '73. It's one of the better tongues designs imo. In the years since the tour, the Stones have used his script design on several occasions. https://www.nme.com/en_au/news/music/australian-visual-artist-ian-mccausland-who-illustrated-for-the-rolling-stones-and-skyhooks-has-died-3286793

Mick's longtime girlfriend said on facebook that he has nothing to do with the livestream and that "sway" album. Someone just using his name.

Correct. Those tanks were custom made and the Stones picked them up at the LA stop in '73. Charlie wore his a lot throughout '73. MT wore his quite a bit in '72. Jagger only wore his once on stage. Keith had a sweater with a slightly different graphic, haha. Wyman had a brown sweater that sold in the Julien's sale.

Quotedcba Funny how much of this band-sanctified material has the look of bootleg/counterfeit stuff. Happy to share! There's still some uncertainty of which shirts were official in '72. It's my belief that the one on the top right is the official shirt sold on the tour with the programs. Most of these were made by local promoters.

Thanks for the compliments all! Hard to believe this stuff is all 50 years old.

Given that it's the 50th anniversary of the '72 Tour, I gathered together a few things I've collected over the years. I’ve spent hours on the phone with crew members and scoured through old photos/newspaper clippings searching for information. If anyone's interested, I'll be sharing more about the individual items in the photo with a bit more context and history over o

So sad to hear that JR has passed away. I always enjoyed the long chats we'd have about all things Stones. Every time I'd share a newly acquired item with him, he'd always say "Nice!!!" in that enthusiastic tone he had. We did a few deals over the years and he was always super fair and easy to deal with. I'll miss chatting with him. RIP Filstan - do you have a

Quotemattleeuk I am on 18 lots so far... nothing very major but some nice little bits... the highlight so far definitely being the Pink Towel and the Toilet Seat cover both mislabeled as 1975 items but are actually 1972. Sometimes you have to keep quiet about the mistakes... 1972 Tour is always worth much more. The ticket stubs were generally quite price with juice. Bill Graham always wen

I own two different Rolling Stones shirts that belonged to Nicky. He wore one of them onstage at the '72 Philly show. He was great!

Quotejbwelda Yes and that is the design of the poster I missed out on. jb So that plane version was for sale at Winterland or at the BG shirt shop?

JB - It is my understanding that those were either sold at the Winterland shirt shop or the Bill Graham shop. I've actually spoken with the artist who did the art for the shirt and he thought they were sold throughout the 70s. Here's another plane shirt that is from the era. Is this the one you remember?

JB - just changed the privacy settings on that photo so it should be good now. Ah well that would be cool if that photo turns up. Would certainly love to see it if you could snap a picture with your phone or something like that.

JB - Yeah I know all about Bill's t-shirt and poster shop that he kept going until the mid 80s I believe. That's the sole reason there is such a prevalence of Stones '75 tour shirts and those of many other bands. Sounds like a missed opportunity on that poster but oh well. On the black t-shirt, I know that Winterland was selling stuff inside at that point. Whether the Stones go

Interesting, I've never seen a black one from that tour that I thought to be authentic. There was one with dice on it that kind of went along with the Winterland BGP poster I suppose. Was it that one?

The plane one is real, however it might actually have been produced by bootleg shirt sellers in '75. There is a video that shows them being sold outside of the '75 MSG shows. The black one is a modern repro.

Quotejbwelda I saw some kid (approx 25yo) wearing what looked like a vintage stones shirt, black with tongue. I told him it was a kool shirt, and that I had gotten one like that at Winterland back in 72. He seemed suitably impressed. jb You got one at Winterland in '72! As a big time collector of vintage Stones shirts this made my ears perk up. Do you happen to have any pictures of it?

Hello - I'm looking for some close ups of some Stones '72 pictures that were on display during a photo exhibit in Los Angeles last year at Hauser & Wirth. Did anyone happen to take any closeups of this particular exhibit? There are a lot of rare photos on this board and I'd love to see some up a bit closer. Thanks in advance!

QuoteRockman Hey thanks bitman …. You's a good detective ….. must be some in joke with Chip Monck ….. I've got a bunch of old shirts that are Stones related. Chip was denied entry because of a previous drug charge, so the crew made a cardboard cutout and stuck it on the piano at a few shows.
