In HD I hear not only lot's of Mick's recent output, but also lot's of Keith's (if we can call Crosseyed "recent"). For sure, it is not "cool" - rather kitsch I'd say, it is shallow and poppish, it follows whatever the current music trends are, it's only rock and roll .... So, yes, HD is a "honest" stones album. C

QuoteBig Al I find Andrew Watt’s production to be popish and contemporary Blame my daughters, but I am quite exposed to contemporary pop music. Well I can hardly remember any guitar driven pop songs charting on spotyfy, forget songs with bum notes, a real drummer, etc etc, C

As noted in a previous thread that got merged somewhere, I think that these songs (the unreleased ones and the 4 that ended up on 40 licks) - as a whole - aged quite well. The album, if released, foe sure would not have been a masterpiece, but for sure I would have enjoyed it a lot! C

QuoteMathijs Quoteliddas While there is no doubt that the song was composed by Mick, I am quite sure that all the open G arrangements (during the chorus for example) and - above all - the intro riff of Brown Sugar are 100% Keith's idea. C From the MSG footage of Mick playing it, it appears he had the song worked out for 90%. Keith added his own time signature to it, and the little fil

QuoteWuudy Hi all, I was reading a little snippet of an interview with Mick where he was talking about Paul McCartney on the new record. In the comments a lot of people were saying that they should do a show are a few songs with Mick, Keith, Ronnie, Paul and Ringo. How much fun would that be. What are the odds that the remaining Beatles perfectly fit the line up of the remaining Stones

I understand those who complain about the drum sound. I also understand those who don't like Jagger's singing style of the period. And those who don't like Chuck's keyboards. I don't quite agree with them all, but I do understand them. Tastes are tastes and cannot be discussed. But the critic I truly cannot understand is the usual "the songs on DW are bad"

QuoteDandelionPowderman I think Had It With You worked nicely, with the fantastic rhythm guitar in the foreground, and the sax filling in. Pretty sure that was intentional production-wise. From Timeisonourside Yeah, the basic track was cut with Charlie on drums, me on guitar and Mick on vocal and harp. We tried it with the full band and we realized we were just sounding like the Rolling Ston

I can't help loving the old Dirty Work. I was 18 when it came out, and it was the soundtrack of a wild summer! The 3 years wait from Undercover seemed ages, and the first riff of One Hit was a knock out. At the time the production didn't bother me at all. Loved and still love the music of that period. Besides, Tattoo You and Undercover were already moving in that musical direction. A

QuoteLeonidP QuoteSpud ...If these albums that we criticise so fiercely had been released by new or unknown artists they'd be received as being wonderful ! The only reason that DW could have seen a release is because it was the Stones. If it was a new/unknown artist, they would have been told "take a hike". Quotepaulspendel Artists in their 'late days' tend to minimalise their sound. Look at Cash, look at Solomon Burke. An intimate, warm sound with a basic band. Downplaying to get the opposite effect, if you get my drift. From the two first songs I derive they opted for a more orchestral, big sound.Nothing wrong with that. I would have preferred a smaller bang instead of a bigger bang look

QuoteDoxa So it goes. In a way it is great that all this material is free for anyone to release (at least in UK & EU), and we can buy it nowadays legally, but at the same time it is a bit sad that they didn't release it officially before the time bound aspired. With that I mean that if the sonic quality is not that good - like, for example, Padre69 mentioned above - there might have b

Truly love Steve Jordan's drumming on Angry. He was able to provide Charlie Watts dynamics, but remaining himself. And Keith's lines feel like a natural fit in Steve's groove. Crosseyed sessions gave birth to a great rhythm section! C
