QuoteMonkeyMan2000 And in Angry it's especially noticable, and IMO badly done, as we all know how Mick actually sounds. His voice is still so powerful and probably more "in tune" than ever, as can be heard on the less processed vocals on Get Close and alike. I think it was supposed to be as it is. It is not a fix. The artistic decision is to have a contrast between the "mode

QuoteSpud We around here are never going to like the idea of the Stones sound being sanitised to please the casual listener... But I suppose needs must...and a successful album may arguably justify it ? I wonder why so many music fans - and not only Stones' fans - have this idea. As I see it, to "please the casual listener" is exactly what pop music is all about! Or, f

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteSpud Digital audio today is potentially great.. The problem is that the industry has not settled on a universal format or on any accepted standards for true High Fidelity reproduction. It could be better than records... ...but it isn't because the industry is only interested in catering for the mass low and mid-fi markets, where brick wall compression

Just listened to the Atmos version on apple music. Still haven't surrendered to this format, but I got to say that in the case of Diamonds, it wins over the normal stereo version: the instruments sound way more natural, the dynamics aren't squashed, almost natural, the voice is a little more buried in the mix. Only miss, bass is better, to my taste, in the stereo version. C

Quotekleermaker QuoteDandelionPowderman Quoteslew Dandelion - I think SG has more than four outstanding songs. Miss You, When the Whip Comes Down, Just My Imagination (I LOVE their take of this song!!!), Far Away Eyes, Before They Make Me Run, Beast of Burden and Shattered are all outstanding in my opinion. The only clunker is Lies. I agree that all the songs you mention are great, but I woul

My Some Girls song by song review Miss You. Absolute masterpiece (even if the album version is the "worse" - only because its the shortest). Live (78 and 81) it was one of the highest peaks in the stones career. One of the sexiest bass lines ever. Charlie's drumming (and above all, his work on the Hi-Hat) is just divine. The counterpoint between Ron and Keith's guitars is t

I first heard SG in the very early 80's. At the time I was really into the Taylor days, and was "slightly" turned off by the lack of that warm acoustic "bed" (piano and guitar) that somehow softend the sound of Fingers to IORR (and Bleed and Banquet before them), by the absence of solos, by those apparently simple structures, etc. etc. The Stones for me could only be the

Always loved Ronnie's contributions. Although it can't be denied that he has had some ups and downs, I invite everybody to give a second listen to his work in the so called "bad" periods, it was not THAT bad! Save some truly avant garde solos, it was generally competent and tasteful, and more often than not truly great. C

Love Cat Power's covers. Satisfaction was from her first covers record. It was followed by Juke Box a few years later, which was a true masterpiece, a great set of songs performed by a great great band. Cat Power's latest is another cover record. Also great but not in the same league as JB. C

QuoteSpud Ronnie's contribution to much of HD does indeed sound more integral to the songs and performances than it has on occasions. On ABB you could perhaps have been forgiven for thinking that, for some songs, Ronnie had just been sent a hard drive with a request to "....noodle over this a bit for us " Yesterday I was in the mood for a Bigger Bang ... Listened to the whol

In HD I hear not only lot's of Mick's recent output, but also lot's of Keith's (if we can call Crosseyed "recent"). For sure, it is not "cool" - rather kitsch I'd say, it is shallow and poppish, it follows whatever the current music trends are, it's only rock and roll .... So, yes, HD is a "honest" stones album. C
