QuoteGasLightStreet Quotewalkingthedog"The Rolling Stones will never have the allure of The Beatles or Led Zeppelin". I don't know what that means. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant will certainly never become as famous as Mick and Keith. Your first bit explains enough. Maybe one day you will see beyond your fandom and understand. Your second bit? You're right: they're mo

QuoteTheflyingDutchman Quotewalkingthedog QuoteTheflyingDutchman Very sad news indeed. Although George Kooymans could be replaced I believe the Golden Earring "calling it quits" is the right decision. Their power has gone long ago. Replacing George Kooymans in GE would be like replacing Keith Richards in The Stones. I apologise, it was not my intention to hurt anyone's feeling

QuoteNilsHolgersson Isnt this better than Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da? Yes, but still probably the worst GE single. The b-side is pretty cool, though :

Very sad to hear. Their last single, Say When, came out in 2019. Here is maybe my favourite Golden Earring song, with vocasls by Kooymans:

AROUND AND AROUND was in reality my introduction to the Rolling Stones. It was not in their original form, but as tracks of that compilation that I first met those songs at approximately that time. I agree that it is very strong and that it took some time before they bettered it, but ranking it above the big four is highly unusual, to put it mildly. I assume you are one of the people who lost interest at the end of the sixties ? You shouldn't have, because the best was still to come.

It's Marlons thirty years wedding anniversary. He told us about this in an interview after the showing of Catching Fire in Oslo a few weeks ago.

QuoteChrisG Also Lynryd Skynyrd blew the Stones off their own stage. A silly idea. The Stones were the main attraction, LS a warmup band whose music was unknown to 90% of the audience. The audience was simply indifferent to the band. The reaction to the Stones was ecstatic. And yes, I was there.

I am also quite fond of prog and my favourites are (Early)Genesis/Peter Gabriel and Van Der Graaf Generator. But I have a huge record collection and have everything by The Who, Kinks, Small Faces, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc.

After many months and repeated plays I still enjoy the whole record. My favourite part now is the middle, from Whole Wide World to Driving Me Too Hard. If I were to make the record perfect, I would kick out Bite My Head Off and Rolling Stone Blues, start with Living In A Ghost Town and add Eazy Sleazy before SSOH.

Talk Is Cheap was great. Main Offender was uneven but had a few great songs (999,Wicked As It Seems,Hate It When You Leave). Crosseyed Heart was OK but uneven and does not contain any truly great songs. HD on the other hand is great from start to finish.

I think it's wonderful that Keith has become a symbol of longevity. Remember, this is not a rock'n'roll publication, but the leading Norwegian newspaper. Quite flattering, from my point of view.

Quoteemotionalbarbecue Thanks for the reference. In matters of taste, opinions vary widely. However, some may think that image it portrays of Keith is not exactly seductive or attractive. Quite the opposite, in fact. Looks pretty good for a 119 year old!

Sorry you can't get behind the paywall. There is a much larger version of the drawing there. The article is about research trying to stop the process of aging and mentions the possibilkity of a 100 year celebration tour in 2062!

Quotenoughties QuoteDandelionPowderman Interesting, as most see it as the strong point. The song, that is I´m struggling a bit with the song as previously stated, but I`m not the only one. Here`s a link to the Aftenposten review of the album. -Mainly positive, but that song is called "poor man´s rock" and "terrible". There´s a paywall, but you can hear the review, admittedl

How can it be the 66th annual awards when they started 64 years ago, in 1959, which means the 2024 award show would be the 64th annual (yet alone it wasn't concurrent in years - the first year there were two! - and 1960 was skipped! It hasn't truly been annual since 1962!)? Because people don't understand what "inaugural" and "annual" means. So dumb. I

I don't know why some people are so negative here. Maybe they have a too fixed idea of what the Stones should sound like. But in their prime they kept changing the music style constantly, from the early R&B to the pop period (65-67) to the big 4 period (68-72) and the funk/disco period (73-78). Although there is a lot of great music on their records from ER onwards, I think they are too

Do you really really really really wanna hear the truth ? This record is great. I have played it 10 times now and it just gets better and better. A late career classic. I hope they stick with Watt as producer, he did a fantastic job.

I am very happy with the new album. I think it leans somewhat in the direction of "pop music",as opposed to blues and roots type of music. But I don't have a problem with that, since the songs are so good. The only song I haven't quite warmed to yet is Bite My Head Off. I don't have particular favourites among the remaining 10 originals (except maybe SSOH) since they are

Quotewalkingthedog QuoteTaylor1 Didn’t he make a record with Bill Wyman The incredible Shades Of Orange by The End is a Wyman/Gosling composition, but I don't think Gosling was in the band. But he was in Moon's Train, whose single was produced by Bill. And I see now it's not the same Gosling. This was Peter Gosling, not John.
