I have really enjoyed reading the comments in this thread. Just a couple of observations from my own perspective. Of course I grew up during the best years of what we now know as classic rock. The majority of the songs during that time period were clearly distinct in there own right. Today when I here a classic song begin I know the name of the song and the artist 95% of the time from the first

QuoteTonstone QuoteUnionHall Greetings from the Great Lakes Region! I daily browse through this forum and enjoy reading the knowledge and opinions of others. One thing I notice is how we all come together as a tight-knit bunch when there is so much going on with the Stones. We all still have our disagreements with others, but it seems to take on an air of mutual respect with fewer snotty comment

I gotta say THANKS to all of you for posting the periscope links. Even though instructions for how to do it have been posted before, the concert would be over before I could muddle my way through it! What a great way to spend a snowy night!

I just want to put my two cents worth in to let you all know how much I am enjoying these Album Death Match threads. Very fun to read! The best wars are those that the reveiwer struggles to select one song over another, and then attempts to justify the choice. The first thing that struck me is the huge number of great songs that the Stones have done. Great thread and great comments!

QuoteDoomandGloom QuoteGasLightStreet Quoteglimmerman So many past summers have been DEFINED by the new Stones single. Remember the excitement singles provided? How about just recording new takes of "Danger Up Ahead" and "You Got It Made". The world would respond. OK, I give up - what singles have defined past summers?Miss You in 1978 and HTW in 1969 come to mind... I too

Just wanted to see if anyone had experiences with quadraphonic sound , and wondered why it never caught on. My local radio station went quadraphonic for a brief period of time, and the only song I distinctly remember hearing is Brown Sugar. A totally different sound, and the guitars were right there in your face, it was like the song was coming at you from all directions.

I just wanted to mention that I did searches under a few headings and I could not find the topics that led me to start this thread. I well recall reading quite a few posts that were not tolerant that the Stones were still rolling and suggested that the glory days are over and that instead of embarrassing themselves on stage they should pull the plug. This did not sit well with me - too many peo

Quotetreaclefingers I hate the thread that uses the straw man argument. Please point out who's said they should hang it up. You must not hate it too much - you read it! Anyway, for the longest time as a follower of this fine board, MANY posters have whined and complained that the Stones need to call it a day, that they are just a shadow of their glory days. I respect that opinion, as

I know there have been many statements made regarding the Stones retiring because they aren't what they used to be. I say, So What! When I see the videos at their concerts and there is a huge throng of people pumping their fists, singing along, and having a hell of a good time, why stop? If the Stones are willing to keep playing and people continue paying to see them perform, there is no s

The only other dream I can remember, although I know there have been others, took place in a small gymnasium. Word got out that a band was giving a performance at a small community college that day, so I went. We all sat in metal folding chairs lined across the gym floor. Most of the people that showed up were older woman wearing winter coats. Suddenly the Stones walked onto the floor and bega

I did a search on this topic and nothing showed up, so here goes. Anyone remember a dream you had that had the Stones in it? I dreamed last night that I was watching some show on tv when suddenly the announcer said, "And now, here is the greatest rock and roll band in the world, the Rolling Stones". The picture switched to the Stones and they played their new single. All I remember i

I too had considered starting a thread on voodoo. I think it has aged well and I myself consider it one of their better albums. The length doesnt bother me at all, and there's always a song or two on most every album I own that I favor less than the others, no matter who the artist is. There is much to enjoy on this album, and musically I enjoy listening to it. Another thing I thought ab

The loudest concert was AC/DC, especially when they fired the cannons during For Those About to Rock. As we walked to the car afterwards we had to literally scream at each other to hear what was being said. Most prolonged hearing issue was from Mitch Ryder. I was sitting right in line with the lead guitarist's amp and,it was high pitched and loud, had ear issues for about two weeks.

When I think of bubble gum music the names that come to mind are Ohio Express, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Andy Kim, the Archies, the Lemon Pipers, and Crazy Elephant. Interestingly enough, Ohio Express toured with and opened for the Beach Boys and the Who.
