The flames crackled as they merged with the smoke and made the old wizard's face glisten in their light. "There is an invisible wall...," he spoke. The weary travelers leaned forward to hear him better. "The wall divides the good Twin from the bad Twin. The good Twin seeks to keep the tribe pure. He craves not riches or glory. He loves only the pure. We are like him. The bad T

QuoteRokyfan no reason for anyone to have any basis to know what they discuss(ed) at any meeting, only a handful of people who think that they know what the Stones are doing, or what they should be doing. Why would you bother coming here and posting in this thread if the thought of people sharing information or speculating irritates you? What else do you expect to find here? If you want solid n

The Beatles were part of the record business. It's been run as an industry for a very long time. Ahmet and Atlantic still felt like the record business for the Stones, but Ahmet was still hands on - just not to the level of Clive Davis. When they signed with CBS under Yetnikoff, they now had to contend with mandatory use of outside producers, a minimum of two singles fully promoted with musi

What went through my head about meetings was that Universal would be meeting with them to listen to the tracks they've laid down since last Fall. If it was a mutual decision that they should take time and make it the best they could, look at what we've had: Mick and Keith sessions at Germano Studios in October/November. Mick, Ronnie, Darryl, and Bernard sessions at Twin Studios in l

Quoteharlem shuffle QuoteTeddyB1018 “Meetings.” Wow. One used to call it recording, or rehearsals, or being in the studio. Maybe they should bring their lawyers to these meetings, in some conference room, to help negotiate the direction of the album. Or maybe Mick is just so Hollywood these days that he talks in terms of meetings. Cracks me up.What do you know, since it really cracks you up?Absolu

I never said anything of the sort. I'd rather have the Stones together than apart. Selfishly, I'd rather have had more Stones albums and solo albums than Stones tours, but that's not reality.

QuoteHairball Double the good news for Stones fans - there's no Mick solo material in the immediate future We already knew he's been working on the Stones album. No news there except for casual fans. What's this about double good news because he's not working on a solo album this year? Is there some rule I'm unaware of that Stones fans are supposed to hate the idea of M

I don't have a problem with Mick's speech at The Grammy's or his attitude toward the award at the time, I said as much earlier. I just brought it up to bring the thread back on topic. For those that felt it was terrible he didn't mention Mr. Taylor, Mr. Jones, or Mr. Stewart - I was just pointing out he gave credit where due at the Waldorf-Astoria for the Rock Hall inducti

Quotebleedingman Marianne Faithfull says that he beat the hell out her once when she attempted to surprise him after a gig in Germany. To be taken with a grain to be sure but that's what she says. I believe Marianne later denied it (in the David Dalton book) saying she made it up for Tony Scaduto's book because he offered more money if she said Mick was abusive. Eva was very upset ab

Oh, I do all that and more, but really this won't change the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1986. Three years later, at the Waldorf Astoria, Mick was much kinder to everyone including Brian, Stu, and Mr. Taylor.

It wasn't in the least directed at you. It was aimed at anyone saying "shame on Bill Wyman." My opinion is simply why judge only Bill? If someone picks on Bill, they should pick on all of them if they're being honest. People aren't perfect. People given loads of weath, unbelievable fame, and opportunity are likely to be even less perfect. Oddly enough, I thought we

The answer to the real question is no, but thanks for asking. Why do we care about Mick and Anita? I don't, but I like PERFORMANCE and the role of Mick and Anita in regards to Mick and Keith's relationship is interesting. Why do we care about Mick and Katherine Hepburn? Just try imagining it and you'll understand.

The thing is where to stop taking the moral high ground? Bill was all that and more. So was Brian, he just didn't live long enough to be more than irresponsible and abusive. There are junkies and drunks in the band. Keith has been discreet largely, but has had several periods of womanizing as well. Mick downplays his drug use and sexual experimentation to be safely locked in the past

If there really are 25 or 26 tracks as contenders, at least half of them are being earmarked for later use. Keith and Don Was both wanted to revisit certain unrealized tracks. Mick tends to want to start fresh most of the time. Finishing up 5 or 6 songs is not an act of desperation, more like saying "we're at the end of the line, let's finish up these handful of songs that seemed t

I'll wait to hear more tracks before judging it substandard. Right now a Last Poets rendition of SFTD is interesting, but I'm hoping that's not the only trick he's tried. Mostly curious about the UNDERCOVER material.

Quotejlowe If they are re-visiting 'old material' with a view to inclusion on the next album, they might bear in mind one reviewer of an old compilation, to quote: "....many of the songs were leftovers from previous sessions that were cut from their respective albums for obvious reasons." Surely there is enough NEW material to work on? There are about twenty new tracks a

That might well be the case, gotdablouse. Did they ever speak publicly about the New Jersey sessions, though? I know we knew they were happening, but I don't recall them being discussed. Obviously I'm not elaborating for a reason. @Ket, it was Rattlesnake, not Snake Ranch. Easy mistake.

I hadn't heard of those titles before Bard pointed me to Martin Elliott's post. It was news to me then. I asked the mutual acquaintance if "Bad Luck Hideaway" was the track playing back while Mick was playing blues harmonica in his brief video clip. The mutual acquaintance said it was and then said, "that's what it was called then." They did say that Carl Falk w

While it's likely there are some slow soulful songs, saying the new material sounds like "Losing My Touch" is not accurate. I've not heard the quote you mention so I'm not sure of the context. We should anticipate the usual eclectic mix of styles with some familiar sounding Stones, some stuff more like "Gotta Get a Grip" and "England Lost," and some st

It wasn't in Paris, it was in New Jersey they ran through the demos and picked what they recorded later in the year in France. And yes, you're right that "Doom and Gloom" was apparently his third demo that they considered. As far as I know, "One More Shot" was the only track Keith offered.

Mick brought a demo he thought everyone would go for, but they didn't. Don't know what it was called, but he alluded to it. Everyone responded to "Doom and Gloom" which he thought was the one they were less likely to go for. Other than that, I know they filmed in the studio playing "Jumpin' Jack Flash" when they were in New Jersey in May/June 2012. It wasn'
