QuotekeefriffhardsWhat was it about the 81" 82" tour that was so obviously unsustainable, I'm not sure any shows got cancelled. Can you explain why the changes had to be made ? Maybe they grew up and did not feel comfortable in that mode anymore? I think your points about Mick needing a predictable, polished base to perform on are not far from the truth. And Keith coasting i

Thanks man, I'm doing alright despite feeling depressed over the world's precarious state with countless wars and conflicts, it's like the sun never really rose again after Covid. Watching LSTNT brings me back to a different epoque, momentarily forgetting all the suffering and seeing people enjoy themselves to those great performances. Your astute remarks about Mick's hone

Yes keefriffhards, it's hard to explain what happened after '82, maybe it comes down to them not overthinking it, not impeding the natural expressions. The dual guitars never reached the same level as the weaving and playing on UMT. What a legendary tour with worldwide exposure and massive crowds at the shows.

I know nothing about how B2B was recorded. It sounds like your typical layer based recording, that is more suitable for a drum loop based song like 'Might as well get juiced'. There is not much push/pulling going on between the musicians like with Ronnie and Keith on Some Girls or Bill's basslines. Less of a group effort more individual dial-ins. The perfected sterility of the mix

QuoteGasLightStreet What are you listening to BTB with, your phone? According to Don Was 95% of the album (not sure how one can claim 5% isn't) is the band playing live. It's obvious with Flip The Switch, Low Down, Out Of Control and Too Tight. Keith basically went in and cut the tracks like he did in the old days. I mean, he got the band together and worked up the songs. He sa

Yes, the dive bombing synth hasn't aged that well, but the basic drum/bass groove is good. Being made with drum loops gives it the modern feel, like most the radio hits these past decades. What are the other 2 unrealeased Dust Brothers tracks from B2B, I liked their work on Paul's Boutique at the time, do I dare revisit it ? In a way 'Might as well get juiced' is a better fit

QuoteGasLightStreet Juiced sounds flat. Perhaps the biggest reason it's so boring is it's so slow. Take away the keyboards and it sounds like the Rolling Stones yawning out a blues song. Might as well get juiced, spit right down on everyone! Not boring, drums are great, powerful bass. The most modern song on the album. For me, one of the most memorable tracks off of B2B.

QuoteRicky Quoteskytrench Sorry if this has been explained before, but is RSD Electric Ladyland/ Ronnie the same as Live and Eclectic, besides the remastering ? Yes. Of course not all the songs. Missing the last 3 of the CD. Thanks. Ronnie's live performances from that period are great. Also 'Live at the Ritz' with Bo, some years earlier, is one of my all time favourite live sh

And how does Mariah even get nominated for rock'n'roll ? Or Outcast for that matter. Seems like anyone with hits can get their foot in.

A forgotten gem ? Hardly. I prefer those sleazy drawn out instrumental 'Munich Hilton' jams from Paris. Damn, I love those!

How Joining the Rolling Stones Changed Ron Wood ? From a leading composer and player to the best wingman. He's done very well. He also became cooler as a stone. Not his fault JJF and Satisfaction became a snoozefest. The stones are forced to play them no matter what and it shows (hears?). SFD has its moments still and through the years.

I guess Swayed couldn't resist the temptation to piss on him! Been a long time since a positive Swayed post was posted on here. Being strong with the logic of the written word is a blessing, but being dominated by critique makes you blind.

I can't complain about Brian's input in the Circus, nothing awkward, flashes of brilliance, I liked the sinister vibe he adds to JJF, the heavy blues shuffle on PW and the original way of playing the YCAGWYW chords, he worked that out well.

QuoteMathijsWhat he played on the RnR circus is mind boggling basic and awkward. It's the sum of the parts that counts, JJF @ Circus has a unique, dark and menacing sound that has not been repeated in later eras, thanks to Brian too. Not sure why you think his playing is awkward, his playing is close to the main riffs. Is JJF itself basic ? Again it's the sum of the parts and their d

QuotePaddy If it was put to a vote and your options were: 1. Accidental drowning (possibly too drunk or stoned to be safe in the pool alone) 2. Roughhousing gone wrong (Frank pissed of with Brian and pushed him under one too many times, or for too long. 3. Murder (whatever the reason) 4. (If there are other options, add) I vote for 1. Don't believe roughhousing would leave Bria

Well, this is a "Mick vs Keith album" thread after all ? Dirty Work had to get released as they had to move on with their record contract obligations. It wasn't shelved or postponed until there was enough quality. In that sense they cared less about artistic value. When is a product good enough ? Why should we not speculate in what they cared about at the time when trying to unders

I love Mick and all that he's done, but he probably works not 'for them' but 'for himself'. Yes, if he didn't care for DW, then it was disloyal to the band. After the 80's Mick seemed to take a different approach.

If Mick didn't care for making DW, then it was a missed opportunity to improve it and an unloyal action against the group. Let it rot so to speak, band members and all...

Jesse Ed Davis can be heard during the last two minutes of Sympathy, but his playing is just really awkward. He bends some notes, plucks some strings and that's really it. I guess the backstage sweets were taking his toll on Jesse. Mathijs Indeed. Not sure I'm listenin

QuoteGasLightStreet I liked ABB... enough. For a while. it's still miles above DIRTY WORK. Although the production and the song writing was suffering with Dirty Work, I feel the best and the worst parts of it surpass the best and the worst of ABB. I am pleased Don Was has been given a break, though it took nearly 30 years!

QuoteDGA35Hey Skytrench, are you going to all these? I'm going to Alice, ZZ and Rod from this list. Also Killers in late August and Elton again in October. Still on the fence about Motley. Seen all the bands, lots of tickets still available. Just don't know if I want to sit through a 7 hour concert. Unfortunately no, since I live in Europe. Looks like you've got some good sh

There are several shows I would consider with ZZ Top and the 80s metal feast on Sept02 as my favourites. Quotefrankotero I’m still in for the audio. Maybe they feel the club show is boring to watch so they added another dimension? There's so much going on that you need more than one camera view. Would be nice if you can choose between the cameras or view the splitscreen mode.
