I actually quite like the album. “One Hit” is a great song. I quite like the song “Dirty Work”, “Harlem Shuffle” is good, “Hold Back” is good, “Fight” isn’t too bad, “Back to Zero” is not great but it’s no worse than most mid-80s album fillers, “Too Rude” is no better or worse than most Keith tracks, “Sleep Tonight” is great, “Had it with you” is good….. I mean, I actually think that overall. It’

Quotetreaclefingers You know I just realized something. The last time the Rolling Stones released an album of new material I was relatively young...and had no children. It was literally a generation ago. It was as long a time as the time between Come On and Start Me Up. Egad! Yeah exactly - to put in Beatles terms, it’s the same as the time Love Me Do and Double Fantasy. It’s a ridic

Sad news. I loved his book about the 1969 tour - I sent him a message congratulating him on it and telling him that it made a nice companion piece to Stanley Booth’s book. Sam very kindly wrote me back.

I always use Hot Stuff. Great sound, clear separation between guitars and brilliant drums and bass.

But note that on the 1969 tour Keith was on the far left (so Bill was next to Charlie) for the Fort Collins gig and, from photos I have seen, the LA Forum gig. And for the first show of the 1972 tour in Vancouver he was on Mick Taylor's side....

I suppose the other big difference now is that there are different prices for tickets depending on how good your seats are. I remember in the 80s and 90s the prices were the same regardless of whether you were front row or nosebleeds. And so that's why people camped out the night before so that they could get the best tickets. The first time I remember thinking tickets were getting expe

QuoteStonesfan2146 The No filter stage was very expensive. The 60 stage was just a frame for a Standart stage backdrop, and barely included LEDs or any kind of lighting in the frame. I was at the Paris show up front and saw the frame already had lots of damage from taking it down and putting it up again. Large doubts they will use it again, it was most probably always planned as a one year thing.

This album and tour was how I first learned about IORR. I was working in Sydney and we had one computer that was set up so that staff could access the internet. It was dial-up so it was really, but every afternoon after work I would get on that computer to try to get info about the album and the tour - and I discovered IORR! I booked a ticket to the Edmonton show, and then flew to Seattle first,

QuoteDeanGoodman In his defence Chuck is 70, and there may not be much room for him to raise his leg and turn his ankle. I'd probably give up before starting. Maybe he should replace the leg lift with a headbutt.

Just watched the video of Chuck’s attempt to use his feet in HTW - poor guy, I really felt for him, missed the first time but then, in a supreme effort of will, managed to get one toe onto the keyboard for a spilt second. I loved Dean Goldman’s description of it in his review. Maybe old Chuck needs to take up yoga to improve his flexibility.

A sensational show. My third show of this tour (after Liverpool and Hyde Park 2). This was the best. I have seen 45 shows since 1995 and this was one of the best and most consistent. Definitely in my Top 10 best Stones shows I have ever seen.

QuoteStonesSmeth99 Keith on fire last week but ‘dropping off’ for the rest of the tour now? Utter garbage.. those with a certain mindset will look for the slightest weakness and extrapolate to make up for not being there, or living in a 1981 perma-dream (they’re better now..). Hyde Park sound is not ‘great’ unless you’re in exactly the right spots (Topi knows where)-they take back control from A

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 QuoteVoodooLounge13 QuoteMathijs QuoteVoodooLounge13 Hey I get we all have different tastes and what not, and that to many the band ceased to function in 1972, or at best 1981....But to me, I grew up on SW and VL, so I guess I have a completely different appreciation for their latter day work than a lot. For me, Voodoo is the last time they put the Rock in Roll. And

Good question. I don’t think we have seen it. For most 5 string songs Keith uses the lake placid blue tele, then the sunburst one for TD, and a different yellow tele (is it “Malcolm”) for HTW.

I am still amazed (or annoyed) at how inconsistent sound can be. In the early 1990s (and beyond) there was a festival in Australia called The Big Day Out. I remember sound was variable and actually pretty shit - at the 1994 Bih Day Out I started out sitting in the stands and I could barely hear what was happening in stage…the same year I saw Paul McCartney at Parramatta Stadium and that was a

I was just thinking about HP1 - if it doesn’t go ahead it can’t be postponed in the same form cannot (ie because it’s part of a festival……). Unless they do the show later that week (ie before HP2) the only the option would be for the Stones to do a standalone London gig at Wembley or Twickenham or some other stadium?
