After a month and a half break the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour kicked off again on May 18th in Rotterdam, Holland. It appears the opening night featured here as circulated on three bootleg releases, the 2LP and 2CD set “Live In Holland” and the 2CD set “Three Nights In Feyenoord-May18, 1990".

This version comes from the same source used for those two versions but is from a verified 1st generation copy and is a big material upgrade over both releases. Both circulating versions run fast as did this version which has been corrected. It has more up front presence and crispness with the occasional sound waver present due to the outdoor venue.

The Hollanders at this show are a noisy bunch but don’t confuse this as a new alternate source, I’ve given it the deluxe treatment and through modern software seamlessly removed about 90% of external audience noise. The other 10% is too embedded in the music frequencies to remove without damaging the actual music.

We have dime member popmart360 to thank for supplying the 1st generation source for mastering, feel free to show your appreciation in the comments.

THE PRINCE'S TRUST ROCK GALA
Eric Clapton - Jeff Beck - Jimmy Page - Steve Winwood - Ronnie Lane & All-Star Friends
ROYAL ALBERT HALL
LONDON, ENGLAND
21st SEPTEMBER 1983

A Goody Speed/Pitch-adjusted Remaster via Docdondy.

>> Commemorating this show's 38th anniversary as well as, sadly, the late great Charlie Watts, a member of that event's 'House Band' <<

This torrent...
a) is NOT the 1983-09-20 A.R.M.S. show, nor is it the official VHS/DVD, nor is it the "Superstars in Concert" radio show;
b) is a 3-CD torrent and this time omits the two CDs from the "Three Yardbirds In The Hall" (Beano 0-23) 4-CD bootleg box that were included in that previous torrent. Beano's version has inferior audio quality and a fade-out that is not on this complete version and thereby can be considered obsolete;
c) is a fresh speed/pitch-adjusted and ironed-out Goody remaster;
d) includes a bonus CD with six Dime-able bonus tracks from the 20th Sept. 1983 A.R.M.S show;
e) has the lost Steve Winwood track title mystery solved.

Lineage CD 1 & 2:
Audience recording > my 1984 Japanese triple-vinyl bootleg album > newly acquired Dual vinyl record player > fresh April 2018 direct digital transfer via USB cable > Audacity (for track marks, level boosting, slight editing, vinyl crackles removal) > WAV > FLAC (level 8) > you.

Goody's additional lineage:
TLH (WAV) > iZotope RX8 Advanced (Azimuth adjusted) > Audition (Pitch Bender, various amounts; levels adjusted; tracking updated) >TLH (FLAC Level 8; Align sector boundaries; .ffp) > foobar2000 (tags)

Lineage CD 3: Westwood One Superstar Concert Series triple-vinyl LP #SS-84 B for FM b'cast in 2000 > DAT (?) > CD-R > WAV > Audacity (for slight editing and level boosting) > WAV > FLAC (level 8) > you; except tracks 2 + 3: very good audience recording >"Three Yardbirds In The Hall", CD 1 > WAV > Audacity (for slight editing and level boosting) > WAV > FLAC (level 8) > you.

Goody's additional lineage:
TLH (WAV) > iZotope RX8 Advanced (Azimuth adjusted) > Audition (Pitch Bender, various amounts; levels adjusted; tracking updated, transitions smoothed) > TLH (FLAC Level 8; Align sector boundaries; .ffp) > foobar2000 (tags)

Sound quality for CDs 1+2: 4-5 out of 6/vg++; sound quality for CD 3: 6 out of6/EX; for the two audience tracks: 4 out of 6/vg+(+)
Four audio samples from 21st Sept. 1983 in comments.

Comes with full-colour cover artwork (PDF- and JPG-files) for:
CD 1 & 2: Re-used 1984 Japanese vinyl bootleg cover artwork which in turn depicts the handbill for the actual show and "The Sun's" front page the next day. Comments always welcome! :-)
CD 3 (bonus disc): A.R.M.S. cast photos and logo re-used.

Line-up:
"The Three Yardbirds": Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, plus: Steve Winwood, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts (RIP), Kenney Jones, Andy Fairweather-Low, Chris Stainton, Ray Cooper, Ian Stewart, Tony Hymas, Fernando Saunders, Simon Phillips, James Hooker.

INFO ON THE PRINCE'S TRUST CONCERT:

THIS SHOW HERE though is from the 2nd night on 21st September with the same personnel yet dedicated to another good cause, Prince Charles' "The Prince's Trust"; therefore, that event appropriately went by "The Prince's Trust Rock Gala". The Prince had just founded his charity project earlier in 1983, and on 20th July Duran Duran played the first fund-raising show. Therefore, he and (the late) Princess Di (of course) attended "his" show which for this occasion had to be cut down to about two hours; obviously it was assumed the Royal Couple may have had trouble sitting on their bums for longer than that. Don't know if I should smile or sigh about that idea...

Eventually, Eric dropped "Wonderful Tonight" from his previous night's set, Steve omitted his opener "Hound Dog", the All-Stars did without "Tulsa Time", and Ronnie himself didn't sing "Bombers Moon". Only Jeff and Jimmy didn’t condense their sets; now, with its 18 plus minutes, Pagey's was by far the shortest, anyway.

So why would anyone with a minimally sane mind ever want THIS concert here which – as an audience recording to boot - doesn’t seem to be a match against the A.R.M.S. 20th Sept. show? Well, there sure are more than enough sane enough reasons:

Though insolently subtitled as "The Complete Concert", that often re-released VHS/DVD of the 20th Sept. A.R.M.S show has not less than frigging six(!) numbers left off: Eric's "Wonderful Tonight", Steve's "Hound Dog" and "Waiting For Orders", Jeff's "People Get Ready", The All-Stars' "Wee Wee Baby" and "Bombers Moon" (note: initial VHS issues had either Jimmy's "Prelude" not included or not listed as a separate track).

In turn, Westwood One's 2000 "Superstars Concert" triple-LP radio show came with almost the complete show, though likewise without the two first tracks in Steve Winwood's set, "Hound Dog" and "Waiting For Orders" (maybe at his explicit request because they don't appear on the official VHS/DVDs, either) - plus exactly without "Stairway to Heaven"! Moan, you get the (somewhat bizarre) picture...

However, that first show luckily also makes its rounds as a pretty good-sounding audience recording and was Beano's source for the first two CDs in their "Three Yardbirds In the Hall" 4 CD box set. Thereby, this torrent here comes with all officially unreleased 20th September tracks taken from the radio show and two from the audience recording, all coupled on one separate bonus CD!

INFO ON THE PRINCE'S TRUST CONCERT RECORDINGS & SOURCES:
In contrast to the first night's rather questionable official release fate, The Prince's Trust show was never released officially or b'cast and therefore is entirely Dime-able, hehe! The Japanese vinyl boot was manufactured from a *complete* audience recording of *really* nice audio quality. The bootlegger's source tape must have been recorded with high-quality equipment and either he flew over to London to tape the show himself or was sent a very low gen. copy - maybe even the master or a copy taken directly from the master. It seems as though even after 38 years' time a straight 1st gen. copy off-the-master still does not circulate.

The triple-vinyl bootleg reared its head sometime in early 1984 (IIRC) and - at the tender age of 22 – cost me a fortune then, as was common with "those" Japanese releases, but I’ve never regretted my temporary bankruptcy. So, please enjoy it as much as I did (and still do) - and share!

Uploaded to the R & R Universe in September of 2021 for all to enjoy, and to honor the recent passing of THE master of time, Charlie Watts.

Thmas (Docdondy) with Goody the Great AKA "cohorts in cahoots"
PS: My 1001 most sincere thanks to Goody for agreeing to work on this special show at relatively short notice, his (as always) most meticulous efforts, and the (as always) outstanding results! Mucho appreciato!

(Goody sez -
PPS: The pleasure's all mine. As well as the honor. Thank YOU, Thmas.)

Rolling Stones_LSU Assembly Center, Baton Rouge, LA (Early) 1975-06-01

This recording is lower generation than the one posted by captain acid in 2020.
Besides, that recording was made from bootleg vinyl. Also, the bootleg included
"Outta Space" whic was taken from the late show that day.

This is a very low generation (first or second) off of the master cassette tape on
a TDK-SD C90 & Maxell LN C60 received in trade in 1976. Probably my first bootleg
Stones that was not on vinyl. I don't recall trading this at all after receiving it.
Artwork from cassettes included.

Lineage: TDK-SD C90 & Maxell LN C60 tapes > Tascam 302 > Sony PCM M-10 at 96/24 Wave
Audacity for volume adjustment. CD Wave Editor V. 1.98 for files tracking > 96/24
and converted to FLAC using Trader's Little Helper V2.8.3.182. Tape conversion and
editing by Michael Cariola.

Imo it sounds a lot better than previous versions!
Be aware it's a raw/untouched recording so one might find it a bit boomy or lacking in high end. I think it's great. Crank it up! It's warm (bit hissy) and analog!

EDIT : the one track from this tape that's on the "Freezer Delight" compilation sounds a bit better than this one but since we'll never get to hear it the TTD torrent is a fine substitute.

I checked
The WB version is still available in Stonesvault.
Two years ago some 800 files disapeared from Stonesvault due to datastorage error.
The links given here are not always valid.
Lots of links need to be updated from the spreadsheet.
The WB link is okay.

The message I want to give is, check Stonesvault spreadsheet when a link is not valid anymore.

It was taped by one Jeff Wilson and it's a pretty good recording.
Marker : two big "wooooo"s near the microphone before "Wicked".

This version of "Gimme Shelter" is fantastic.
