THE PRINCE'S TRUST ROCK GALA
Eric Clapton - Jeff Beck - Jimmy Page - Steve Winwood - Ronnie Lane & All-Star Friends
ROYAL ALBERT HALL
LONDON, ENGLAND
21st SEPTEMBER 1983
A Goody Speed/Pitch-adjusted Remaster via Docdondy.
>> Commemorating this show's 38th anniversary as well as, sadly, the late great Charlie Watts, a member of that event's 'House Band' <<
This torrent...
a) is NOT the 1983-09-20 A.R.M.S. show, nor is it the official VHS/DVD, nor is it the "Superstars in Concert" radio show;
b) is a 3-CD torrent and this time omits the two CDs from the "Three Yardbirds In The Hall" (Beano 0-23) 4-CD bootleg box that were included in that previous torrent. Beano's version has inferior audio quality and a fade-out that is not on this complete version and thereby can be considered obsolete;
c) is a fresh speed/pitch-adjusted and ironed-out Goody remaster;
d) includes a bonus CD with six Dime-able bonus tracks from the 20th Sept. 1983 A.R.M.S show;
e) has the lost Steve Winwood track title mystery solved.
Lineage CD 1 & 2:

INFO ON THE PRINCE'S TRUST CONCERT:
THIS SHOW HERE though is from the 2nd night on 21st September with the same personnel yet dedicated to another good cause, Prince Charles' "The Prince's Trust"; therefore, that event appropriately went by "The Prince's Trust Rock Gala". The Prince had just founded his charity project earlier in 1983, and on 20th July Duran Duran played the first fund-raising show. Therefore, he and (the late) Princess Di (of course) attended "his" show which for this occasion had to be cut down to about two hours; obviously it was assumed the Royal Couple may have had trouble sitting on their bums for longer than that. Don't know if I should smile or sigh about that idea...
Eventually, Eric dropped "Wonderful Tonight" from his previous night's set, Steve omitted his opener "Hound Dog", the All-Stars did without "Tulsa Time", and Ronnie himself didn't sing "Bombers Moon". Only Jeff and Jimmy didn’t condense their sets; now, with its 18 plus minutes, Pagey's was by far the shortest, anyway.
So why would anyone with a minimally sane mind ever want THIS concert here which – as an audience recording to boot - doesn’t seem to be a match against the A.R.M.S. 20th Sept. show? Well, there sure are more than enough sane enough reasons:
Though insolently subtitled as "The Complete Concert", that often re-released VHS/DVD of the 20th Sept. A.R.M.S show has not less than frigging six(!) numbers left off: Eric's "Wonderful Tonight", Steve's "Hound Dog" and "Waiting For Orders", Jeff's "People Get Ready", The All-Stars' "Wee Wee Baby" and "Bombers Moon" (note: initial VHS issues had either Jimmy's "Prelude" not included or not listed as a separate track).
In turn, Westwood One's 2000 "Superstars Concert" triple-LP radio show came with almost the complete show, though likewise without the two first tracks in Steve Winwood's set, "Hound Dog" and "Waiting For Orders" (maybe at his explicit request because they don't appear on the official VHS/DVDs, either) - plus exactly without "Stairway to Heaven"! Moan, you get the (somewhat bizarre) picture...
However, that first show luckily also makes its rounds as a pretty good-sounding audience recording and was Beano's source for the first two CDs in their "Three Yardbirds In the Hall" 4 CD box set. Thereby, this torrent here comes with all officially unreleased 20th September tracks taken from the radio show and two from the audience recording, all coupled on one separate bonus CD!
INFO ON THE PRINCE'S TRUST CONCERT RECORDINGS & SOURCES:
In contrast to the first night's rather questionable official release fate, The Prince's Trust show was never released officially or b'cast and therefore is entirely Dime-able, hehe! The Japanese vinyl boot was manufactured from a *complete* audience recording of *really* nice audio quality. The bootlegger's source tape must have been recorded with high-quality equipment and either he flew over to London to tape the show himself or was sent a very low gen. copy - maybe even the master or a copy taken directly from the master. It seems as though even after 38 years' time a straight 1st gen. copy off-the-master still does not circulate.
The triple-vinyl bootleg reared its head sometime in early 1984 (IIRC) and - at the tender age of 22 – cost me a fortune then, as was common with "those" Japanese releases, but I’ve never regretted my temporary bankruptcy. So, please enjoy it as much as I did (and still do) - and share!
Uploaded to the R & R Universe in September of 2021 for all to enjoy, and to honor the recent passing of THE master of time, Charlie Watts.
Thmas (Docdondy) with Goody the Great AKA "cohorts in cahoots"
PS: My 1001 most sincere thanks to Goody for agreeing to work on this special show at relatively short notice, his (as always) most meticulous efforts, and the (as always) outstanding results! Mucho appreciato!
(Goody sez -
PPS: The pleasure's all mine. As well as the honor. Thank YOU, Thmas.)
