Will you be moving on to the 1970 tour after this? I have a few gaps in that as well, thanks for all the posts so far keep up the good work! I'll try and post some remasters of some of these shows that I have at a later date

Yes, if my health is good I will continue posting shows from 1969. And it is very important if anybody has different versions of these shows, better of course if are remastered stuff.

Hello Bootlegman!
I have ten tracks from Dallas on Cd-R! Definitely a different source - louder,
more upfront and even more distorted! I don't remember where I got this from.
I am very sorry, that I cannot upload this, but I can send you the Cd-R thru the
post, if you want me to.And thanks again for your work!
Hans-Jo

So here it is finally, took me only two years:

Flac files.
Maybe I counted ten tracks, because Carol & Little Queenie are very much cut; infact there are quite a few cuts in the other songs too.
This recording is for completists only, sound quality is very low-fi!
Nothing has been done to improve the poor sound, I only speeded up the original cd-r and I added track markers on my Tascam cd-recorder.
If you want to check the sonic quality, try this wma file first:

I have no account with Sendspace, so the links will be deleted in a couple of weeks.
By the way, the links The Bootlegman provided seem to be still valid!

Gigasize link with the Flac files added here, so all links are together in this post.

I'm listening to these tracks, in a hurry 'cause I've no time.

It's great .... 100 times better than the available Dallas recordings..

I'll listen more carefully and compare later but the sound is VG+.

Thanks Rank.

Yes! And this is definitely a different source!
Sometime ago I had to change my e-mail address; I was getting tons of spam after having logged in at guitars101.
Over here this required a new username, hence Hans-Jo became Rank Stranger.

that IS a lot better,Hans-Jo! The version I have is 3 gen off the master and you cant hardly tell you are at a concert much less who it is!!

This is a great finding, notwithstanding the various cuts. I'm more enthusiast than with the Aberdeen 82. This is 40 years old and guitars are clean, the voice is very clear, hiss is not disturbing.
I'm not an expert of editing but I think there's room enough for improvement; DAC and VGP will do it soon.

Thanks again Rank.

I tried to compare with the other Dallas which is almost unlistenable. It looks to me the same show anyway. There's some mess of Jagger in the first lines of Live with me and the boulevard of Paris line in HTW, although Jagger alternated Paris with NYC in different 1969 concerts.
It's a pity Prodigal son and JJF are missing.

Yes, barroom queen in Dallas + Paris boulevard line: unique and superbe.

Rank Stranger,

thanks a lot for sharing this new source! New 60s/70s tapes don´t turn up very often and each newly circulating source is highly appreciated.

The recording is not perfect by today´s standards but still very listenable and well balanced (even the drums can be heard) and definitely better than the other tape.

Shame about the missing tracks and cuts but this is still a great find.

Thanks again for sharing it with us!

Good try vancouver, but this needs a lot more work to make it listenable & in sync.

The new version is overmodulated, in plain english - distortion from being recorded too high. Whether on the original tape or whether on transferring the tape to digital I can't say but a bit of 'clip restoration' seems to have helped. However, the new StrayCat is also quite muffled, difficult to make out vocals.

The 2 versions run @ different speeds, the old one is 1/2 tone flat so I've adjusted that first & then adjusted the new one to sync them together.

I then did a straight mix, one on top of the other so you get the clearer vocals from the old version plus a 'fuller' sound from the new one. First 22 secs plus the applause are from the old one, in between is a mix of the two.

A really quick job to see if it can be improved, to do it properly I'd need flacs of the old one, I've only got 128bit mp3s, & I'd experiment with panning them left-right to see what that sounds like

1969, Dallas. Stray Cat, mix of old & new versions

[rapidshare.com]

The clipping/distortion on this source is typical for a too loud transfer to digital. Making sure the volumepeaks remain below 0db during the transfer will prevent this. Clip restoration does fix the problem quite nicely on this one but a new digital transfer of the tapesource, preferably with azimuth adjustment would probably sound much better.

I have the old version on CDR and I can transfer in FLAC.
The problem is that the CDR version is worse than the 128mp3 available here, more hiss and voice is more distant (imagine...)

Very likely the CDR version in my hands is the result of several duplications of cassettes and who knows about the real quality of the original... I have this CDR since 12 years, maybe more.

I can post here the SCB in the next 15 minutes but I'm afraid we'll not go very far with it.

Probably it would be better to work directly on the tape of Hans-Jo.
