Well, here’s his Bobness for this week. It’s all about fools and the role they play in our lives, whether the fool is our self or someone else. The show kicks off with Aretha and her version of “Chain of Fools”, but it also features, among others, Ike and Tina; Bobby Blue Bland; and a James Carr duet. If you haven’t got any early Ike and Tina Turner albums in your collection, seek them out. They did classic r & b and Ike is a great guitar player. Bobby Blue Bland is a contemporary of B.B. King, but a vocalist only. Bland is a great interpreter of all blues styles, but mainly ballads. He has a well known vocal trick where he grunts or snorts during a song. When he does this at a live show the audience screams with delight. At one live show of his I attended, women in the audience were tossing their shoes up on the stage and calling out for him to bring the shoes back to them later. At another show, Bland stopped singing during one song to watch an attractive woman walk by then looked back at us and said, “I may be old, but it don’t mean I’m not alive.” We all howled at this line. There’s also a few Bobby Blue Bland and B.B. King together live albums floating around out there. If you dig the blues check ‘em out. James Carr is another classic blues/soul singer, but not very well known. He made a few albums; each is filled with soul and r & b gems. If you want to hear some classic Southern soul music and singing, Carr’s definitely someone to check out. Anyway, here’s this week’s show. Enjoy!
