POST: Ron Wood - A Private View Vol 01 - with Bobby Womack 1982.09.26 (reworked audio) FP 141
Ron Wood: a private view
It seems that Ronnie Wood planned a video documentary called "Ron Wood - A Private View" in 1982, which has never been aired (or even completed). Many parts of the source videos, mostly shot by Mark Pines, appeared on archive.org quite recently. Most of the circulating videos are very compressed, so it was the idea to get these in best quality. It took endless hours to download mega-files with 10 -70 GB per film and to separate uncompressed audio. These files were partly in mono, partly silent but mostly in better quality than all we had of this before. For this series, only the musical content was of interest.
Thanks to my two accomplices for their help, advice and inspiration!
First part:
RW JAMS with Bobby Womack, Los Angeles 26.09.82
In this part you will find a jam session between Bobby Womack and Ron Wood in RW's rented Los Angeles house on September 26, 1982.
Some of the unidentified tracks got "benchmark" titles here (put in quotation marks). During this long jam it seems that Bobby Womack plays a lot of his new compositions to Ronnie, some of them seem to be unreleased until today. Interestingly Run Away was recorded by Ronnie Wood for his never released 1987 album Automatic.
Part I: coming from the video called ‘Protection_ Master 56’
Bobby Womack starts to play guitar at around 21’38 in the video.
The right channel was flawed by a lot of noises: I decided to keep only the left one and to duplicate it. I deleted two little noises at 0’45.
01 – truncated instrumental (might be intro to Will the Circle Be Unbroken)
Part II: coming from ‘Protection_Master_08’
02 – Will The Circle Be Unbroken *
03 – Tobacco Road
04 – You Don't Have To Go
05 – That's Where It's At
06 – I'm Ahead If I Can't Quit While I'm Behind
07 – Gypsy Woman
08 – I Stand Accused
09 – Tonight's The Night
10 – Touch The Hem Of His Garment **
The source is declicked, the channels equilibrated and the sound refocused. I didn’t use a rumble reduction filter for not altering the sound.
*Because of the several noises and the heavy rumble in the right channel, I decided to keep only the left channel and to duplicate it in the first 30 seconds.
** The rumble is heavy in the outro. I used a slight rumble reduction filter only in the outro
Part III: coming from ‘Protection_Master_58’
11 – What'd I Say
12 – Surprise Surprise
13 – banter
14 – banter & noodling
15 – I'm A Little Mixed Up
16 – unidentified #1 (hummed song)
17 – unidentified #2 ("oh I’ve been preaching for my little girl")
18 – Run Away (I used a short patch to attenuate a flaw at 0.55)
19 – unidentified instrumental
20 – unidentified #3 ("slow down") the song started in Master_58 and continues in Master_59: both segments are reconnected (I used a 1 second patch in the beginning of the 2nd part)
Part IV: coming from ‘Protection _Master 59’
I refocused the channels (the right was0,0001sec in advance)
21 – unidentified #4 ("talk to me")
22 – instrumental jam
23 – unidentified #5 ("I’m moving on")
24 – 3 fast instrumental parts
25 – unidentified #6 (with guide vocals)
26 – If You See A Ring Around Your Bathtub
27 – unidentified #7 (slow "somebody else")
28 – Mystery Train
29 – unidentified #8 (fast "somebody else")
30 – unidentified #9
31 – unidentified #10 ("man out of control")
32 – Flat Cat Blues (or Flat Head Blues)
33 – unidentified #11
34 – Jealous Love
35 – Memphis Tennessee & blues riffs
36 – unidentified #12 ("baby try me")
37 – unidentified #13a (hummed song with Jealous Guy-like melody)
38 – So Many Rivers (I deleted a gap at 1’18)
39 – unidentified #13b (Jealous Guy-like melody, but totally different lyrics)
40 – final banter
As usual all the infos are coming from Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database: [
